Hey yokemad,

the key to a free car is pretty simple. The Mi3 is naturally a very free car.
I made the following enhancements to mine:
1. Remove all the belt guides off the pullys/Diffs.
2. Use the Grey Mi2EC belts front/rear
3. I run the belts alittle loose
4. Use light oil/powdered graphite on the CVDs

I check and replace bearings all the time. I like the feel of a new car and new bearings usually gives that to me. Plus its a major component of the drive train. New bearings helps with both the smoothness of the car and the effeceincy. Spray them out, lite oil, and you're set.

I also run my belts a bit loose, like Static. It helps with the drag from the pulleys to the layshaft. Just be careful you don't run them too loose and chew up teeth of the belt.

I just found something about ballracers ,I clean them with motor cleaner then burn them with lighter result extremely free and fast ballracers but If I apply some oil as a lubricant that oil makes their spinning slower and much harder...
I usually apply some Molly (black like grease) to the drive shafts...is that ok?
do you apply wd40 to your cars?

In all honesty I don't really do anything special to the drivetrain to try to free it up more. If a bearing feels gritty I'll clean it out with motor spray and re-lubricate, if it's still gritty it gets replaced. I have only been running the grey belts now for a few months, never broken a single one or had one wear out, they are an easy way to free the car up a bit without really doing anything special. For CVD's I use a couple drops of Schumacher giga lube, no bind, low wear.

For CVD's I can recommend high quality motorcycle spray chain oil, it'll go anywhere in the CVD where normal lube dosen't, and it's super easy to do, just spray, work the CVD and spray once more and your done.

It wont get thrown out since the oil is designed for high revolutions.

Well I'm no team driver by quite a stretch, but...

In all honesty, I think your working a little to hard with all the burning and all that. The Mi3 comes with the best bearings around of any out of the box kit. Sealed...yet...smoother than everyone else.

My car is pretty darned smooth as is, and all I did was add the grey belts and run them a little loose. I didn't do anything to the bearings or anything. In fact, I actually use anti-wear grease on my front universals, which probably slows them down. But they hold up to the spool better that way.

The Mi3 is about as smooth as you'll get out of the box. Grey belts and running them loose is about all you really need after that.

I usally clean the car when it starts not rolling as free as it normally does. It depends on the race I go to on when I clean the cvds. Normal club race I clean the cvds about every three weeks. They are usally still clean I just do it anyways. Hope that helps.

goetz vegas setup. have at it. i think ae yellow/blue springs would have been better, but i never got the chance to go back after i switched to the softer xray plum/white.

mcgoo and i both had good cars using some different setups.

I use the Orion 3200. Fits well, but requires more weight to be added than if you run something like the Orion 4800 or Core 5000.

make sure the diff shims arent binding against the bulkheads
make possitive that the diff pulleys are in in the correct direction
clean out the stock lub from the bearings,and put a high quality thin bearing oil in.
for my driveshafts I put a little xray diff lube on them
my car is very smooth and extremely free

I just use regular corally style plugs to plug into the pack. I made sure that my solder joint (wire-to-plug) was as flat as possible so that it would fit under the bulkhead. To do this, I just soldered the wire to the corally style plug at a 90* angle as usual, then ground the solder joint a little flat with a rotary tool.

If you really need more space, you can take a little material off the 3200 case to allow the wire to fit under the bulkhead better, but it really isn't neccesary.

I even added a little tab onto the wire so that I can charge the pack without taking it out the car.
