I think Solara though could better answer than me, as the track I run on is a tighter track.

it will be noticable in a race is someone is using it...but Im asking the 40+ VTA racers here locally to be honest and dont embarass yourself and have your car pulled by a tech at the end of the race....

ps...tech of VTA cars will be after the heat and ramdom in the pits...
I think this is more than fair! I also feel that any larger event that is hosted, that the top 3 cars in the main should be mandatory Teched. I have yet to see this done at any VTA race. Most other Roar, BRL, and other simliar races I have been to, this was a given.

I've been reading through alot of threads about making an indoor track and the cars thats run and whats allowed and not allowed.I've seen designs and there awsome,I also read about barracades and what not to make barracades out of.But there really is no info on the racing surface.I can see that many like carpet.I have done alot of outdoor dirt and parking lot goofin off/racing.I always though that carpet and rubber tires don't really work.I was trying to get all the info I can,I'm going to try to make an indoor track.I did some measuring and was thinking about maybe 70-75 by 30-35 feet.It aint bad,but I have a pretty good list of materials for the stand, the barricades, corners and stuff, but really am confused about the racing surface.I would like to do concrete like a parking lot but see alot of carpet....what the best or easiest to maintain and prepare? best for the cars?

The best indoor surface for racing is Ozite carpet. It is the standard for racing. It is ONLY avalable through Calandra racing on the east coast. It works the best with foam or rubber tire vehicles.

Asphault is the 2nd best choice with some sort of traction compound on the surface.

Concrete is your last choice since it is abrasive to the tires, (brushed concrete). Otherwise I have no other experience with concrete. Maybe someone else can help elaborate on this.

for anyone who has done a police car setup with there VTA and used the Ram lightbar, how are you securing the lights inside?

Instructions have it that you pretty much drill the hole, then run the lights through, but then they would be beating around in there.

VR Racing is only getting out of VTA...he's one of the people who has been driven out of a GREAT class by the changeover to LiPo / Brushless. We held out for a year running the original spec but finally changed for this season so we could be in-line with the USVTA rules. Like a lot of folks who started out at the beginning he'd STILL be running the class (and we'd be having fun running it with him) if it had stayed 4-cell / 27T. Believe it or not we lost a lot of folks like Aaron when the spec changed...folks who didn't buy into the "gotta have the best batteries and re-brush the motor every race".

Thankfully he's still racing 1/12 and is looking at picking up a WGT car. And it's not like he's anti-LiPo or anti-brushless...he runs LiPo / Brushless in his pan cars. He just doesn't see that VTA is worth the investment when it was perfectly good the way it used to be.

Just another side of the coin.

Scottrik

btw...his Losi is CRAZY fast!! Anyone who buys it will be hap hap happy.

This is partially true... Just for clarification you CAN get Ozite carpet elsewhere but it is NOT the same stuff we race on. I know as I have received samples from the company before. The alternate low pile Ozite has a pattern in the carpet that would not be suitable for a racing surface.

It sucks that we lost a guy like that, even though he wasnt in my area and I never knew him. It sucks that we lost a good number of people just like that. however I hope hope hope that the technology will stabilize and that the rules will too, and then VTA will come back stronger just like a plant thats been pruned. Maybe Im dreamin, but theres no crime in that.

Skottrik Im going to need your help/ ideas about something.

Should be able to get some body painting done soon, I got the lights and speaker connected together and setup to run off of the reciever. works well. RAM is sending me out several blue lenses, etc.

If you do not want to glue the lense to the base, you can drill a hole in each lense post (if you have one you know what I mean) as well as through the part they go through, and run body clips there. Make for changing the lights easy too if you are securing them.

For securing the lights, I used some really small body clips. something to kind of hold them in place but not block the lights. if anyone has a better idea I am all ears.

I hope to have some pics soon.

Got my Havoc ESCs in.

Are you running the Police body in the VTA class?

I would like to see a few pics as your going if you don't mind.

Did you end up racing last week? Did you make any changes to your car for the handling?
