Hi guys. Greetings from Malta.

This is my first time on this thread. Interesting. I write lots on the Yoke MR4 site and the Malta Racers site.

I have a hobby shop and my son and I both race. Have been in the game 10 years.

I am the Orion and Corally distributor and have mostly run Corally cells and modified motors on our cars. I run an MR4 Special. Son Josh runs a TC3. He's lots quicker - but he's also lots younger!

I also do lots of business with CML in England and bought some SMC Powers 3000 cells from them a while ago. My impression on these is that they give masses of run time but you just cannot convert this to speed or power - presumably too much IR.

The RC3000 is a great all rounder, but we recently tried the SMH Panasonics and they give way more punch, speed and run time - running 11 and 12 turn motors on both cars.

I spoke to Oscar at Orion recently and he says the new Sanyo HV is even better too, but being in business I also realise that it is better for Orion to push Sanyo than Panasonic - for obvious reasons.

So who's going to give us an honest unbiased answer. I've got some HVs on order anyway so I suppose I will soon find out for myself.

Keith Billanti - haven't seen anything from you in the oke thread for years. How are you doing.

regards

Joe from sunny Malta.

John Bull: The Powers have similar IR to that of the older RC3000H.

The RC3000H when trayed and charged with the right peak detect are just as fast as SMH's. The good news is that the RC3000HV is even better than the RC3000H.

SMC is unbiased and isn't an exclusive agent for any cell.

Danny,

I ran my new packs the other night with GREAT success (I dont want to gloat, so we will leave it at that!!LOL)....

When i was done running them, I did what had been suggested, used 30amp discharge bulbs... but when the lights went out it was only at like 6.9 volts... should I leave them on untill it hits 5.4??? or is there another way to get them down? Should i tray them to 5.4 volts? I DONT want to loose any run time..

thanks again

Keith

If you keep 30A lights till they run out, you are going WAY below 5.4V...

I learned this just recently...I put my voltmeter on the pack after I discharged them, and they were at high 6's or low 7's in voltage.

But what I noticed, was that the voltage WHILE the lights are ON the batteries is much different...5.4V with a 30A load is RIGHT when the lights start to dim...

I left them on till they went out, and the WHOLE pack's voltage was below 1.5V @ 30A.

But then I kept the voltemeter on, and took the bulbs off, and they jumped right back up to mid 6's.

I highly doubt they lights completely went off, and the pack didn't reach 5.4V under load yet.

Keith: Just put a voltmeter while the lights are on the pack. Disconnect at 5.4 volts. I believe there are companies who cell a cutoff device to put with your lights.

Don't tray them if you want to keep max runtime.

TSR6: We sent out a batch earlier this week 3 day select they should of received them today.

The good thing is that we will have another batch ready on Monday.

rafaelli: I would say those numbers are in the top 2% of what were seeing on our machines.

Danny: Do you think you can tell me what is the right peak detection for RC3000H charging on my Eagle CDC charger? I seem to have probelm with those RC3000 as most of my pack capacity had drop to about 2500mah, those pack are only about 4-5 months old and only be use for racing. Any advise.

I would say that those are very decent cells. The IR might be a tad high.... I think that 18-20 is good IR for those cells I think. But I don't think you can tell a difference between cells with 23IR and 18IR with the same numbers.
