This car should use only one 4S battery, I sincerelly don't like 2 saddle packs. You need 2 chargers, it's not simple to change the packs. With only one battery pack will be much easier.

new Lipo technology. i have looked hard at how things can work. and tonight it came to light. i will start work next weekend on a change to the layout . i will make a new radio tray, and it will house 2 x 2S packs, these packs are from teh Losi 22, they are 96mm long, and for anyone who runs the gas car, its the same cut out section as the Tank is situated. sit 2 of these packs on their edges, and bases upon each other, and they are light , compact, and no doubt, soon will come in bigger capacities. currently looking at the CRC 4200 40C. C rating shouldnt be an issue if using the Tekin speedy. using a fair amount of current limiter will prevent the C rating having an effect on performance, and will make the cars more drivable with the same top speeds as current 966E cars. so stay tuned, and i hope too Serpent can make use of this new technology, and come up with a new design themselves.

Anyone know which is the correct pinion for the Serpent 966e?
I'm looking to get something bigger than the stock pinion but am confused by all the different models of 5mm pinion...

Mod 1 is the correct pitch.

if you grind the spur holder down to just about on the holes, you can fit the Losi 40T spur, and go from 24 up to 26 pinion. on 4S should make them quite fast. same gearing on 5S insane fast. 6S just stupid fast

With that heavy gearing, I think no motor/ESC/Lipo can deliver enough power on 4S for a decent amount of time.

I've converted my 950R to Electric on 6S lipo, and with 1st gear spurs, a cnc made holder, 22T motor pinion, and a slightly modified motor mount, you have room to fit a modified brake disk again.

Spur/pinion
Break disk
Break servo

Yes, my 2 times 3S lipo lie next to the car, this is not the best set-up, but it's a lot of fun driving it!
1st test run without mechanical brakes was to much for the motor, but here you have some youtube's to see for yourself!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f30iBuujrRY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VJlxDlMRJw

Topspeed reached was 111kmh, which is the same as 1/8 nitro can reach.
Laptimes where 1 sec less, than what I can drive with my 966, but with better body, and better tyres, I think I am able to get close enough!....

the spur holder for the 2 speed shaft. has 3 holes to screw to spur gear. grind down the alloy on each screw flange, to about 0.5 of a mm away from the hole. then it will fit inside the Losi spur gear at 40T.

I'm wondering with that heavy gearing, if the Batteries have enough juice...
Also what Kv motor do You have there?

In the other thread I've seen the Tekin RX8 with 1400Kv (I think) on 6S, in that Kyosho car, yes it seems reliable, but there is not a lot of speed, from what I can see on the video's.

Also I think You and I run on much bigger tracks then they do in the US.

But it is fun testing and trying like this.

wiht the Tekin, they give you a guide to use. 4S they suggest the 2650 KV , then as you go larger battery config, you drop down KV motor. so the suggested KV motor for the tekin on 4S is the 2650. as i also said, the tekin speedy has way much more control than the H/W. but the layout is what is important, im sure the shorty packs will get larger in Mah. but i ised a 5S pack, 3600mah, and ran for 2-3 mins, and when i checked what had been taken, the battery was still at 60% that was with a 2250KV. and this new gearing. it still spun up the wheels no problem at all, if you wanted it to. but it had more of a drivable power delivery, but still playing with settings. so can only try. but MOD touring cars are well over 100Km/hr at our track, so i just wanted the 8th scales to be a little faster that that. but i know corner speed is more with the 8ths, and overall lap times. but it is thrilling to put an 8th at 130km/hr into a banked sweeper.
