Nimh Charge Rate Q
Hello i just got a 8cell 2600 mAh for my tx and the instructions say i should charge at 500mA. My charger is a duratrax onyx 100 and im pretty sure it doesn't have .5A setting and the lowest one is 1A. So my question is would it be safe to charge the battery pack at 1A? thanks.

You can safely charge this pack at 4-5 amps, NiMH technology is not the same as lipo.

Long skinny cells like the AA's in your Tx pack like slow charge and discharge rates. 4-5amp charging will kill the cells very quickly. 1 amp is perfect. Up until recently I always ran AA rechargeable batts and charging at 1 amp they will last several seasons.

Chraging a TX pack at 5 amps is pointless. Is the extra "punch" in your TX pack going to make your laps times go down? In order to get maximum charge I'd charged at a rate of 1/2 the capacity. In this case 1.3 amps. You are looking for maximum capacity here no need to splash the cells with tons of current.

8 AA pack, 1 amp is perfect

For TX pack its not recommended to charge 4-5A. You do not need punch on your TX pack. Cause the excess current burst will eventually spoil your TX.
Hence manufacturer prefer the lowest being the safest. Hence no one would choose to wait 12 hrs for full charge. Eventually they prefer do it at 1A for quick charge. |
For mini 4wd racing they do this. As this will give them the current output burst. That's why some cars are damn faster than other although same specs.
