Default Mckune Design 1s Lipo Chassis Kit for the GenX10

I have been developing a 1s Lipo Chassis for the GenX10 for the past couple of months. The goals were to make it narrower, lighter, top loading taped battery, and room for all electronics to be mounted behind the battery. We have been testing it for the last couple of weeks and officially released it this last week at the Timezone Gran Prix. We had 3 cars make the A main with Andy Wells qualifying and finishing second only to Team CRC driver Bryan Wynn. In the first of three A mains Andy actually finished .1 second behind Bryan. In the second A main again it was Bryan and Andy way out front 1st and 2nd. To top off a great weekend Stormer Hobbies placed an order and we are off and running.

Below are pictures of the chassis kit and parts as well as Andy Wells' and Dave Ehrlich's cars. I also included a pdf copy of the instruction sheet. If you have any questions or comments post them here or PM or email me.

Thanks,

Troy Mckune

Default Back in Stock

For those who wanted one and missed out on the first batch, I finally received more material. Stormerhobbies.com has stock as well as our Kydex bumpers.

Thanks

Love that chassis, Troy. Raced it for the first time last Saturday. Just got to work out the setup (and driving as usual). Building one up for my son as well.

Decided to move the servo all the way forward and as high as possible on the mount. The arms are now mounted on the back side of the servo saver and the middle hole on the steering arm. The result is nearly zero Ackermann. Turnbuckles swept back less than 1.5mm. Haven't had a chance to drive it that way yet, but looking forward to trying it at the NWIC race this weekend. Mounting on the inner position on the steering would make straight or slightly forward.

Now all I need is a minor mod for two cell LiPo so I can run mod this summer. Let me know when it's ready.

Hi TROY

I have a gen x10 & just learned about your chassis today . What is the reason for this chassis, does it really help performance or is it just meant for eaiser battery loading . By the way it looks AWSOME .

Also will the stranahan-rc nerf wings work on this chassis ?.

The major benefits of the chassis are: reduces part count (battery tray and its mounting screws, Center ESC plate, some hardware, and carbon spacers), narrower by .650", lighter than stock, quicker and easier battery loading, and the biggest benefit is all your electronics can be mounted centered behind the battery. Centering the electronics will help the car to transition quicker. Also, the electronics are much more protected centered behind the battery.

I have seen many people optimize the stock chassis for 1s Lipo very successfully but it also involves cutting up the top deck with a dremel, buying the center mount ESC plate, taping the battery to the battery tray or shortening the standoffs and adding spacers under the shock mount. The goal I had in designing the chassis was to create a much cleaner solution for everyone switching to 1s Lipo.

I looked at stranahan-rc.com and I am unsure if it will work or not. I can see the use of these for outdoor 2 cell lipo, but I think most would choose to go without for 1s due to weight.

Thanks,

Troy

not really...its pretty straight forward and very easy. i swaped mine out about an hour* (down time at a 2 day event)

the only thing you will need now is battery tape or velcro.. and weights!
