Just found the trade in offer. Sounds good but can I trade in the PT that isn't working very well?

Depends on what you mean... All MyLaps / AMB IT Transponders will work on it.
Other brands, I don't know. I don't think there will be strange misbehaviors, but I don't know for sure.

Upgrade conditions
In addition to our General Terms and Conditions, the following conditions apply to the upgrade from the MYLAPS RC2 Transponder to the MYLAPS RC4 Hybrid Transponder:

Only applies to MYLAPS RC2 Transponders (non cloned).
The MYLAPS RC2 Transponder must be in working order.
MYLAPS will only ship the RC4 Transponder to your shipping address upon receipt of:
(a) your current RC2 Transponder, and
(b) a printout of the upgrade order confirmation e-mail.
This special upgrade offer is valid until 31st January 2010 or until stock lasts.

So when it sends a signal (how weak doesn't matter) it works.... Maybe write a letter with it when you have a broken lead or something...

Best Regards

Robert

I think the question that people need to know is, will the RC4 hybrid transponder work with the older AMBrc decoders (pre AMBrc3)?

From the link Robert posted...

works on the new MYLAPS RC4 Timing System, so you are well prepared
is 100% backwards compatible: It also works on all current MYLAPS RC2 and RC3 Timing Systems (previously AMBrc)
allows you to already benefit from the standard transponder benefits
Your standard transponder benefits:

So it sounds good Bob.

RC3 decoder owners
The benefits of the RC4 Timing System are available to you if your club upgrades their RC3 decoder to the RC4 standard by means of a firmware update. The firmware update is free of charge and will be available in February 2010.

Only problem, is extremely expensive shipping charges for the new RC4 pt and they request proof of purchase in case you want to replace your cloned pts. After 3 years of having the clones I don't have any receipt!! and I don't think many people will have

Shipping has been high here too... Unless there was a special,.. it been $20 no matter what I ordered...

Nick, I could be wrong... but I doubt they will clone someone else's transponder... think they are referring to MyLaps "new" cloning option for the PT4

No Problem :-)

Indeed shipping is high. Shipping here to the Netherlands is a few bucks (euro's). But when you go outlands it over 60,-. Maybe there's something wrong with the system, or the made a fault or something..... Lets wait until they awnser. There has been send a e-mail to them.

I'm not sure what the cloning means. On the MyLaps website you see a Mylaps transponder. Looks like you give them a already cloned transponder which is 60% discount instead of a non cloned transpoder with 70% discount. But I could be wrong to...

Best Regards

Robert

My question was will the old (original PT's) work with the new timing system (RC4). Not will the new PT's work with the old timing system.

Ok!....missed the link by Robert on the previous page!

Well it sounds pretty kool....seems like MyLaps is on top of it! The temp and voltage thing is a bit of bling bling, would have to access this info from MyLaps site if the track was online. Would be the bomb if the transponder had a sensor to monitor motor temp!

Actually we (JLap) will probably try to include this into our software at some point. In fact it would be good in our LapWatcher software. This is a personal practice/setup software racers can buy, what we consider the ultimate tuning tool!

I like the ID# idea.....sounds like it still gives the racer a unique transponder number that is just different by one digit. This is something I have had a problem with the cloned trans sharing the same exact number. Form the software point of view one "unique" number is the way to go! Curious where that number is though....it it included in the 7 digits or an 8th. it would need to be at the end of the number because the trans start in the 2xxxxxx range.

Not 100% sure, but when we tested it, I drove with two transponders (RC2 and RC4) Both where shown on the "old" RC2 Lapcounter, and If I'm correct both where shown on the RC4 lapcounter. Even when I disconnected the RC4 transponder, I read my RC2 transponder on the RC4 Lapcounter. So if I'm correct it will work.

Best Regards.

Other Transponders of MyLaps can alread do this (Karting scene) But there are still thinking / working about this. Not sure if this is also going to be a feature.

Best Regards

The have an introduction price of 55,- But there are nice combo deals which can be found Here.

But what I think is nice.... You can change your old RC2 for an RC4 for just 20,- here

Mine is already on its way :-)

Best Regards

Robert Krens
Nice, already informed last week about the transponder.

The only thing i hope that it is possible to pick up the transponder at their office, because i live just around the corner.
Don't want to pay 17 euros to have something shipped for 3 Km.
