Spur Gears??
 

G'Day Guys,

I was looking at getting a couple of Kimbrough Spur Gears for my TA04 R but was informed at the last minute, they dont fit my TA04 R Tuned.

I was wondering what brand/s you guys would recommend for my TA04?

Im planning on running 48P.

Whoever told you that Kimbrough Spur gears do not fit on the TA04 probably don't own an 04... I have 3 of these cars in different specs as well as the 414 chassis and all the spur gear holders on these cars accepts aftermarket gears such as Kimbrough and Robinson Racing as well as many others... just make sure you buy the right number of teeth... :)

What is the main difference between 48 and 64 pitch gears? And what is special about kimborough gears? Also, is a thiner spur better (for electrics) because Robinson racing is selling gears really thin.

48p gears have bigger teeth than 64p gears. you can make much finer gear ratio adjustments with 64p but they strip more easily than 48p, especially if you run in unmaintained tracks.

thin gears help a bit because they are lighter in weight than standard width gears. also, on some cars, you may have no choice but to run thin spur gears because there is no room in your drivetrain to fit wider gears.

people also say 64 pitch is alot more quiete than a 48 pitch i think its the opposite..;)

oh no, 64 is quieter than 48, by far, if you mesh them right of course.

yea but, Most times alot of people wont get perfect mesh and it will just be louder than a 48 pitch. And having 1 car for 2-3 classes is tough to get perfect mesh to be switching motors in and out?:cool:

i think for Stock 48 pitch is Great. For Mod 19turn. 64 pitch would be my choice.

So should i choose 48P or 64P spur, if i want a quite car. I dont car about fine turning the ratio tho. I mainly want a smooth and quite drivetrain.

Well, if you're new to this(& it sounds like you are), then I'd suggest you use 48 pitch for now, until you get comfortable with setting the gear mesh, & gain soem driving experience. Keep in mind that 64 pitch gears can strip quite a bit more easily if seriously stressed(like when hitting a lot of things) or if you get the gear mesh off too much(which doesn't take much). Thenwhen you feel that you'd like to have more fine control over final drive ratios, you could give 64 pitch a try(I don't think you'll notice a difference in efficiency or noise if you set the mesh right with either).....:cool:
