The info that we ask of you and the info that we give you are all important in giving you an idea of where to start your gearing. The idea is that you want the motor to top out about halfway down the longest straight. So the size of the track is important. The internal ratio is important to figure the final drive ration. The size of the spur you would like to use will determine the size of the pinion based on the final drive, which is determined by the size of your track. And then ontop of all that what the dyno numbers are on your motor will make a big difference as well. We have guys that run 6.8 to 7.1 final on our track, and because of the way I have my motor tuned, I actually run a 5.2 to get into the same ball park without frying a motor. If all you are looking for is a generic "what size" pinion and spur, then the xray book is by far the best general guess at a gear ratio to run.
