First time racing my Xray this week, I cant wait. Its on a tight twisty carpet track, and im geared at 45/120. Or 32/85 :D Ill give a race report in carpet racers forum later with things I found out. Take a look if you're interested. I might copy and paste it here but we will see

Gritty Diff?

Hey guys, I just got my Xray and I drove it for the first time today. For it's first run, I set the diffs a little loose to break them in. After 1 pack, the front diff became extremely gritty, like the diff balls had flat spots on them. I replaced all the balls in the front diff, still gritty. I checked the diff rings, they had a very small groove for the balls like the rear did. The rear diff is perfectly smooth, and was set just as loosely as the front diff. I also checked for dirt, but none got inside. I would have checked new diff rings but my LHS doesn't have any. I don't get it. Anyone have any ideas?

Joe, if your front diff came pre-assembled (all did I believe), the parts inside the diff output halves, take it apart and rebuild it. There was a XRAY owner here that had his pre-assembled incorrectly from the factory. Another thing, and I am sure you got it right, but make sure that the diff washer has the shiney side against the diff balls.

Later...

Hey gang, a buddy of mine has an X-Ray and he is looking to stock up on some extra parts. He put together a list and was wondering where to get the best deal? Do you know of any on-line shops that carry extra parts? I know he is looking for the front one-way. If so can you post it here? Thanks in advance!

Try http://www.Atomichobbies.net in Florida. They should have a good supply of parts and is who I get my parts from.

Joe

You might wanna consider carbide diff balls, they wont lose their roundness.
