Default Different Tamiya Mini Compare?

I'm looking into getting a Tamiya Mini. I was wondering what is the difference between the different chassis and which one is a good one to race with?

Seems like the M03M is popular? Why?

How easy is it to convert a M03 to M03M? Or is it just the spacer difference? I see that you'll need the F Parts from M03M but you need other parts to use the parts from that parts tree?
