A lot depends on the amount of material used. A upper chassis plate will usually cost less then a lower plate.

Goto any of the online hobby shops and look for parts. TC5 Cyclone and XRay parts would be your best bet. You are going to need measurements of the pieces in order to figure out how many square inches of material you need. I happen to have a Exotek TC chassi plate here that measures about 13 inches long by 4 inches wide. Depending on how you hold the material during cutting I'd figure about an extra 3/4 inch in each direction. How do you plan on cutting the parts? Mill or water jet?

Then that leaves a mill. Does your dads shop do a lot of cutting of carbon fiber? It's not like cutting other materials, seeing as it's actually more then one material your cutting. De-lamination and pulling of the fibers can ruin a work piece quite quickly.
