Ok here you go,

Just for all you 10.5 runners out there, UK Novak Team recommended setting for Kinetic on board programming running Associated TC5R @ 1350g with Novak Ballistic 10.5 at 6.9 fdr on 2s Reedy lipo.

As run in UK Pro stock by Steve Lander with UK Kinetic prototype on open outdoor Tarmac circuits, motor temps on temp gun approx 78 deg C, 5 minute runs.

put figures in fields 1-17, in order.

111881411363112-1, the (-) denotes the 16th field which as Hall sensor check, has no value.

Smooth but strong linear throttle reponse, excellent launch (no stutter) and very good top speed. Strong brakes with excellent feel. Use fan on speedo as supplied.

Keep us posted as to how you get on.

Steve, thanks for that - will save you a text from Alan - he said that you and Chris were looking quick in 10.5 with the Kinetic and he would get your settings for me :-)

I assume that this is with the timing on the motor set at 30 degrees (N)?

Correct!!

Motor timing at 30 deg or N depending on your Ballistic timing label.

Well I put a few laps down over lunch. Car was hooked up. And I can say that it did seem pretty smooth. Which is good because bench testing it yesterday seemed to have a surge when the timing kicked in.

The track is pretty tight and not a lot of room to open up so I started with 30 degrees starting with 5500 rpm. This seem to have plenty of rip and smooth transition in and out of the corners. But I lowered the timing to 20 degrees and the car was much easier to drive (FDR 5.71). When I get the novalink I will probably run 25 degrees with the same rpm range. Just to have a little more down the straight. But other than that it is pretty sweet. I did notice the motor runs a little hotter with 30 degrees than it does with the Tekin with almost identical set up. Once I get the novalink I will be able to fine tune it a little and maybe bring the temps down. I didn't bring my temp gun but finger wise it felt in the 150's. I might need to lower the end bell timing a little when running the novak.

Also, just for to see how much speed there could be, i put it in the street last night with 55 degrees plus boost, and well its a rocket. It looked pretty close to 50 + mph. So there is plenty of room to work with on my small track.

So does anyone know when the kinetic will be available as an upgrade option when sending in GTB's? I have 5 GTB's (3 working - 2 not) I would like to upgrade but can't afford to buy the Kinetics outright. I love the GTB but it is proving to no longer be competitive in on-road racing..

I just dropped one in my sc 10 with a 10.5 motor. I paid full price as the local shop as I am a nobody. Probably overkill for this truck, but I needed something better than what I had. The link was not available yet, so I am running it in stock form. Smooth and fast with excellent brakes.

It might not be fair to rate it yet, for me, since I just dropped the thing in and tried it. If person did not like a certain aspect of the thing, its changeable. But so far, I'm very happy.

I just got mine today and rushed at the track getting them into my 2wd buggy and truck for racing. Both were great, I had to adjust the dead band to work with my radio, but I love the NovaLink and the ability to see temps from across the run. One thing that caught me by surprise was the drag brake, the values seem to be about exactly cut in half from what I had on the Tekin, I guess it must have been on a different scale. Overall I was very pleased and impressed with the Kinetic and NovaLink pair on my first outing with it. I'll be tuning it in this weekend and will post some pics if anyone wants just to show how I mounted it all up.

Good to hear. Have you played with the current limiter? I have been running the MMP and it has "torque control" so it limits the max amount of torque regardless of RPM. Which make it really smooth in loose off road conditions. I think it gives me a pretty big edge of anyone trying to rely solely on finger finesse and a slipper clutch as it is a lot more consistent.

Question..Does the current limiter affect top end?
Would be interesting to try when our track is dusty/start of the race day?
Mike

By the way..Novak service/advice is second to none..
These guys are making a BIG effort to come back to the ESC wars, Im for one are going to support them all the way..
If there are any problems with software/hardware....Be patient as its new..And they will strive to help in all ways possible..

i have been testing with this feature in tc 17.5 and havent noticed a loss of top end but it does seem to mellow out the low. for high grip i run it on 2, but if alittle dusty 3 seems to help. it also has alot to do with the rest of your setting. what i did was find my set up first, then slowly drop the limiter till it was noticable then went back up 1. this seemed to help with temp issues tipical for tc cars. good luck

Here's a few pics of them mounted up, once I get a better feel for the settings on the NovaLink I'll post them up as well.

That's exactly the way I did it when we were doing testing in On and Off road cars. The test driver would run a few laps bring it in and I would drop the current limiter setting down one setting at a time with the one touch until they could fell it affecting the punch of the car and then I would back it up one.

Here is a little history on ESC current limiters. Back in 1986 I designed an external current limiter that we introduced at the 1/12 Ifmar World Championships in Holland and it was an instant success. Tony Neisinger won the Crown using it with a T-1 Novak ESC. That was 24 years ago. We later incorporated the current limiter into our ESC's. Of course other manufacturers copied it and we all used them for years. The current limiter then fell out of favor with most drivers and a lot of manufacturers, including us, stopped using them. But now with the added power of Brushless Motors they are a great tool to have.

Thank you very much.... From the Pics Below It looks Big. And BIG means POWER!!! And Usually we were putting weights to compensate the small lrps. So this looks good.. Cant wait to get my hands on one.

Anyone Ever Try those New 1300 Series I beleive Novak Ballistic SC motors 17.5s?? They give more RPMS I believe. Anyone get one of those??? Thanks guys
