Supposedly, there is a internal code for the xray guys, i think it was 2.8 = HPI Silver 2.6 = HPI Blue.
That would make some sense Thanks for that Brad

Are the HPI springs any better?

Probably you should move this post to the Tamiya or HPI thread. This post has no relation to XRAY cars. If the XRAY part is available, it would make me cringe if I see a XRAY car at the track with HPI or any non XRAY parts.

Sometimes aftermarket parts are just as good or better. For example, the Team Tamale aluminum steering knuckles I have are better than the Xray ones, due to the fact that they have an additional hole to attach the steering link (more tuning options), and they allow you to use the stock 5x10x4 wheel bearings instead of fragile 5x9x3 ones.

The strange thing about the Xray board is that the on-road moderators there were very anal about things like that, but the off-road buggy forum was totally the opposite. Heck, even Rocco was suggesting competitors' parts to try (like springs, air filters, bodies, etc.).

Those companies where the drivers aren't held back from using another brand's parts where it makes sense are too busy winning races to worry about censorship.

It's easy to say the car needs another brands parts, but unfortunately the fact that the US Team drivers are winning with a stock car proves this wrong. It's kind of hard justifying the need to blame the stock parts when someone driving an out of the box car is beating you.

Wow, you RC America drivers are a bit touchy aren't you, lol. They're talking about springs after all, it's just a tuning option.
What if you were to use AE shock oil, oh my god! The horror!

Can someone explain to me technically what makes HPI springs the "best" springs or even better than XRAY's offering. I am sure Mr. Hudy would like to know why would a racer go out and spend additional money to put a competing product's part on his car. It is like putting GM parts on a BMW.

Actually, BMW has been using GM built automatic transmissions for years.
