Default Help with charger and batteries...

Hi all

I have been away from r/c for like months, just recent, i bought 2 new packs of Team Orion Rocket Pack 3300 MAH NIMH batteries from my LHS..

So my very 1st thing to do when i reach home, i discharge the pack @ 10amps since my charger only allow 2 charging rate either 2 AMP or 10 AMP and i charge it for use @ 3.3amp...

Just about 5mins or so,my batteries show false peaking, same for another pack.. my charger Beeps indicate the battery is oready fully charge, but reading was @ 8.4V @ range from 5xx~6xx MAH

After that i discharge the pack and charge it again, same thing happens....then i called back the shop owner, they recommend me to cycle the pack[s] few times, see wat happen...and so i did, i cycle the pack 5 times...capacity did increase by abit but, battery dun peak...after tat i dare not to discharge the pack, since there is some capacity inside, i just put it away..

The charger im using was a APEX MU+ -> http://www.apexhk.com/products/mup.html

Any1 can tell me if the charger is not compatible with the battery im using now or is the battery faulty? or maybe both? Should go for a better charger eg: LRP pulsar 3?

They probably just require a number of cycles to bring them back to life.

Keep re-peaking the cells until they are warm to the touch. If they are cold they are not charged. Then discharge.

A few cycles like this should decrease (hopefully stop) the false peaking.

So which means, even tho 10 time cycle cant really gurantee if the battery will 'wake up'?

another thing is, i heard new battery which bought from fresh requires a very low amp charge like maybe overnite charge to allow the cell to hit to the max capacity? wat if i didnt do that?

There is no guarantee the cells will wake up, it sounds as if they have been resting for a long time.

A handful of incomplete or fast charges is not going to do the cell any harm. The harm comes from a long period of misuse.

I just looked up that charger and found some reviews of it stating false peaking. Also the description always mentions 3000mah... not sure why you couldn't use higher capacity batteries but maybe not. Can you borrow someone elses charger to try? That should tell you right there where the problem lies.

However though it might just be what others have mentioned and it will take several cycles to wake them up. What I have found is each cycle you should get a little more capacity into the cell. If that is happening you should be heading in the right direction.
