Default Starting an equal "spec" class

How can a "spec" class be setup, on the local level, that puts a premium on driving while making the cars equal. Got to be inexpensive AND low cost.

I think the only way to get it to work is to make every single item spec or nearly every item. Allow fluids and setup to be changed but all electronics, parts, etc would need to be stock. We have a spec slash class that works well for us locally and we are looking to create a spec F1 class. With F1 it will be down the gear ratio, same battery, nearly everything using only the HPI car. Across different brands cars I just don't think it will work.

Our F1 class will be fairly low cost

Kit: $120
Motor: $14 (HPI Saturn 27T closed endbell)
Battery: $40 (Orion Experience Lipo)
Servo: Any
ESC: Any (brushed obviously)

For the HPI cyclone spec races they had the winning drivers swap motors with the losing drivers. It keeps people from playing games with the motors.

We used the spec hpi gumball tires.

I'd agree with Orbital to be successfull you need to limit a true spec class to a specific vehicle. Like his example we have a great stock spec slash class and its our biggest class every week.

first: a spec class just means a cheater class, that's what it will end up as

second: if you must try spec, just copy the Tamiya TCS rules

It is never about driving it's always about the guy that buys 50 motors and gets a screamer or the guy that cheats some other way and it's not easy to find....

we have guys running 13.5 cans in WGT 17.5 class with the duo as the can is the same color.....

Same everything and hand out motors. On road either VTA or 17.5 Rubber Sedan are enough of a challenge indoor.

As already stated, on road needs a "slash" class. The closest thing I have seen is F1.

Its too bad HPI put out the Sprint 2 with a non-racing spec drive train in it.

We run "Senior Spec" class here, seems to be what your after. Everyone has an inexpensive TT01 w basically no mods, same tires, ratios, and hand out silver can motors. Its alot of fun, affordable, and cars seem pretty equal.

I think the guys in Nashville run a VTA class and tech speeds with a radar gun on the longest straight... that may be an option.

But TT-01 spec seems to make a lot of sense. Even if you could spend a ton of money on it, with handout silver can or saturn motors, I doubt all the hop ups in the world would do much.

We are running a Gentlemen HPI cup class.

Kit= $200
esc= $40 phazer 15t
Motor= $15 silver can
Battery= $40 2400 orion
Radio= whatever you have

We run the kits stock except for shock oil. This is done by the racers not the track. Like I said GENTLEMEN. the only problem is if you blow a corner you start prying for someone to hit a flapper so you can get some lost track back. Only 4 cars right now but its growing.

If you make it to Austin Tx come and get some Spec Hpi Cup racing. Our hobby store carried the ESC and motor in store.
