What did everyone think of fri practice? I liked the way it was last year and felt a little short changed after taking the day off work. I think the late arival guys got as much track time as everyone else.I liked the heat style but maybe only one at the end on friday and the saturday one would have been fine for me. Just asking me and my friend had fun, ALL DAY and I did better than I did last year so I cant wait for the 2010 Classic. Thanks for a great race.

I think one set of grouped open practices per class would have been nice, it worked well last year. Running in your heat worked well too. A combination of the two would be best.

Is it time for the second leg? I'm already tired of work and need another excuse to take a weekend off

Had a blast and thanks to all the Gayte crew and host tracks for putting on the series.

Ditto on the Friday practice, I preferred last years format.

we (smooth, chicky and i) discussed this before the race, and we were split on this. ultimately, we made the decision to go fully controlled (by heats) to minimize the chaos. for every few guys that are prepared, there's a few more that have no idea what's going on, no matter how many documents are posted, or how many times you tell them. we chose ourselves this time.

the other legs are not required to use this practice format. for the hc next year we'll consider reverting back to last year's style or a hybrid of.

thanks for stopping out, and for the good words, guys.

What was last years style?

I didn't mind the way practice was on Friday. However since most people didn't seem present on Friday most of the practice heats were only half full which left some excess bandwidth on the track.

I thought the whole event went great but if I did have one suggestion for future events it would be in the announcing area. All the laptimes were great but would have liked to hear more about hazards on the track as they occurred and more management of the race (letting people know when the leaders are coming up on you and what color their car is, etc). Perhaps a two announcer system could work to get a balance of the laptimes vs hazards. Having announced races I know how hard it is to watch the computer and watch the race at the same time.

I was approached about this and one of the things I like to do is run lap times for the Racers and let the Marshalls do ther job. I was reminding them hard core in the last qualifier because so much is on the line for most Drivers and when I point out chaos out on the track, the marshalls get more distracted and nervous and end up making more mistakes in trying to get the cars going again or simply picking it up if the car is dead....... Hazzards are going to happen and the Marshalls have to be aware of there surroundings.......... Having another Mic will not make the situtation better but make it more entertaining.

Im not sure I completely agree. More than likely a car will find a hazard before a turn marshall will get there to clean it up. Announcements such as "go high on the straight", "be careful in the sweeper - go to the outside" really help the racer out while the marshall is making their way to the carnage. In addition announcements such as "blue car, the yellow car behind you is in first place and is coming up on you" helps both those racers navigate their way to keep things clean. The reason I suggested two announcers is it is impossible to call out lap times and watch the race for such things.

I know I had a couple of incidents I could have likely avoided with a little heads up, like a car stopped at the end of the straight while on an A main qualifying run.

That said, the announcing was the same for everyone. There are many qualifiers to pull together both your driving and luck and in the end the driver is kinda on their own. Having announced races in the past I know how stressful and difficult it can be at times. I really envy people that do it well.
