Are there any drawbacks to using one brand of power supply over another for a TurboDyno 45 or is "50 amps 50 amps"?
Which of these would you buy if you were shopping for a psu for your dyno right now?

1: a 40 amp constant supply with surge to 50 amps for $147

The majority of my concern right now is stock motors.. but I'll be working more on mod's in the future (when the guys start out running my brushless and I need to run an 8 double to keep up ), so I don't want to have to turn around and purchase another supply later.

How often do you guys running Turbo 45's actually get above 35 amps draw and have that being the important number?

You need to find a solid 45 amp plus power supply. We use a 75 amp power supply for our Turbo 45. It spikes the power supply pretty hard, the bigger the better in this case.

Crash is right. I have a Bulldog 55 amp power supply for my Turbo dyno 45 and doing a mod with the last step hitting 40amps, it has spiked and shut down so to be safe get something bigger like Crash said.

Or you could use a 7AH 12V lead gel battery. They are not expensive and can crank out 80A until it dumps. I use a 12AH battery myself (mainly because the 7AH where not available when I bought a new one...) You will need something to charge it with. I use my dads old 4A car charger. Don't leave it on too long when recharging because it charges a bit too hard... A battery will feed your dyno true DC current. (No spikes)

Well, I would get a solid 50 amp or more power supply. The draw alone for the motors is up to 45 amps, but you must remember, the unit needs a bit of power to operate itself. Always smart to have a little power in reserve. I don't recommend using a battery with the TD 30/45, neither does CE. Invest in a high quality power supply from Rivergate and you will never need another.

I have a 50 amp for mine but I only do stock motors... you cant go too big for mod motors
