heat question?
okay i was having fun with my car today and well i some how managed to melt all the solder off the motor and melt a few wires, the esc still works but i had to replace a few wires.
do you think any damage has been done to the motor or esc?

Depending on the motor (BL/brushed) I would sya yes. it may not be immediately noticeable, but it is there for sure.
That being said I would be worried more about the battery. If there was a short it is not sure the current went throguh the motor, but it went through the battery for sure.
Check the wiring and the drivetrain is free to move. Then have another look at your gearing.

it was a brushed motor, i had to bin the battery it was fried.
is it best bet then just to replace the motor?

How were you running it? Was it in tall grass or thick mud that really slowed it down? When you notice that a particular area slows your car way down it's a bad area to run it in. This means there is too much drag on the tires and possibly the chassis. That forces the motor, ESC, and battery to work too hard - especially if you're going full throttle most of the time.

out in the open in a car park doing speed tests. nothing i havnt done before only change to the car was better tyres with more grip

Take the motor apart and look at the winding, if thay are black you have overheated it. It may still work for awhile but will not be as fast. Smell the esc, if it has a nasty burnt electronic smell then the fets have been damaged, again it may work for awhile but the magic smoke will soon be released.
