VTA is a must, cause it has helped the on-road classes so much over the past 2 years...plus everybody needs a relaxed class to run in...this is for "Independents"..sponsored drivers should avoid this class...not to say they cant run it...but should avoid...if possible

or

RCGT...look at VTA

12th scale whatever is the strongest class for the elite r/c racers...a mix of "PRO" and "indies"...

TC 17.5 rubber spec tire...this is a stock class....if you run a spec tire it will allow "JOE BLOW" to get his feet wet on a large scale race...this is another class that will keep cost down....for those not into VTA/RCGT...its also mostly for "indies" but sponsored drivers should run without reward(no trophy or payout)...its a good measuring stick for up and coming TC racers...

TC 13.5 foam...is for the guys trying to get to mod TC...money isnt an option due to the several set of tires they go through in a weekend of racing...or in case of the BIRDS...a week worth...this class isnt for everybody and those who sandbag to win just suck anyway...get in MOD!...once again its a mix like 12th scale, cause you maybe to hang with the sponsored guys but need more "REAL" races against the big boys to make a good jump

TC MOD FOAM...top of the line for ele on-road racing...all the top guys and sponsored guys run this class...very little independents run this class...if any!

this is my take on this...no need to bash any class, we just need to get as much carpet burn as possible...this will be my first year at the BIRDS and VTA/RCGT and 17.5 TC will be my poison...look for me

VTA shouldn't be included at serious big races for fear laughter might break out on the drivers stand!

Now, I think the US needs to make up their minds on what to do about foam or rubber on carpet. You dont see ANY other country having any big races on carpet with foam tires, all rubber. I would like to see this happen in the US, as foam is starting to die out. This also allows more classes to be run, such as VTA, World GT, etc. There are now too many classes out there to run a big race with foam and rubber TC and then other classes.

All we need is 5 classes...

17.5 and Mod Rubber
17.5 and Mod 1/12th 1 Cell LiPo
WGT 10.5, 1 Cell LiPo

Of course the is multitudes of other classes that are successful at the club/regional level, but if we got more inline with the rest of the world, I think it would breathe some new life back into onroad racing.

TC 17.5 Rubber
TC 13.5 Rubber
TC Mod
1/12 17.5 1s
1/12 13.5 1s
1/12 mod 1s
VTA\RCGT
WGT 1s

That's eight, so I guess if some were to be dropped they would be; 13.5 TC & 1/12, then VTA\RCGT. VTA and RCGT are very big in certain areas so depending on where the event is being held would determine which is chosen. 13.5 1/12 and TC could also be decided on by where the event is being held.

The one that baffles me in reading this thread is how many people want 17.5 foam. WHAT'S THE POINT. Foam tires are used for higher traction which is needed with faster motors. 17.5 is to slow for foam, the cost and maintenance of running foams makes it not as attractive to new comers, and you have to worry about changing your setup after every race. 1 set of rubber tires can be run for 25-30 races before needing replaced and your setup does not require changing so often.

Im in the UK, so not really a valid opinion, but for a big event i'd be looking at...

Sedan

hand out foam 13.5
hand out foam 10.5

Rubber 13.5
Rubber 10.5
Rubber Mod

1/12th

10.5

VTA 17.5 (No sponsored drivers allowed).

----

F1 are nice, but I dont think they have a grip on the r/c scene enough to make it viable, even at bigger events, unfortunately.

TC Rubber 13.5
TC Rubber 10.5
TC Rubber Mod (5 cell OR 6.5/LiPo)
1:12th 10.5
1:12th Mod

That's all we run in the UK and it certainly seems to work (but we run separate meetings for TC and 1:12th)

So maybe if its the Snowbirds add 10.5 TC Foam and 10.5 WGT

That's funny. It seems to be doing quite well in this part of the country.

This thread got back on track waaay to quickly..

I always find it funny when people talk about classes that are dead, how can you speak for the entire country? before our track closed it looked like 1/12th was dying, but we went to the Nats and it was the biggest class.
