Double shunted brushes and stock brush talk
Is this the next big thing for stock motor tuners? A driver at our track today used a double shunt Trinity E brush on his P2K2 and was rockin'. I know that the new P94s use double shunts.
BTW, is it conventional wisdom to always use a full face brush for stock motors? I have a Fantom P2K Limited Edition and they chose to use a notched brush. |
It is my understanding that stock motors do not pull enough power to take advantage of a double shunt. I am no big jim.. but I think that is where I read it...

Believe it or not brushes had dual shunts about 10 years ago and they found out they really didnt make any improvements. It wasnt until we got down to 7-8 turn motors that it made any difference at all.

the brush doesn't draw all the current from the shunts, the brush hood conducts too

I have a few questions about brush modifications
I heard you can cut a portion of the brush and increase power. Is this true? If so, what portion/how big do you need to cut? Will it work for stock AND mod motors? Pictures would be nice, too, so i know how it is supposed to look like. :) Thanks. |

The shunt on the brush has a very low amperage carry capacity....and most of the amperage is transferred from the brush hood to the brush.
