They are more precise.
I have mounted mine transponder in front of my servo in my TC.
I have had it in front on my bumper but I didn't like the wire near my spool.
Ad our club we look ad the time not the nose of the car so that's why we put the Transponder as far in front as possible.
Photo finishes are nice.

Apparently BlackStock winning by a few inches doesnt count anymore. Indycar had a finish last year at Chicagoland where the transponder said Dixon was the winner but the photo said it was Helio which they went by. Bad decision by the birds to not give you the win in a race you clearly won.

Didn't the same thing happen at Cleveland a few years back? I think it was between Orr and Spashett?

Hupo's PT was about 8 inches more forward in his car then Mike's PT.
This means by travelling 4 inches per 0.01sec this was the advantage Hupo had. As Hupo's PT is still 4 inches more closer to the loop, his time is faster.
Don't blame AMB for this.
PT's are all the same, even the MRT PT's, it's the decoder that calculate the time in the middle of the loop. You can not imagine how accurate AMB system really is, tolerance is +/- 0.001sec
What happend in the past with Orr and Spashett in Cleveland was because they used the "old" AMB 20 system which works really different from the current AMB RC2/RC3/RC4 "red" system.
This is the reason that for example Motogp/ Formula 1 all teams have their transponders exactly at the same place in the car or bike. When it comes down to a photofinish, the AMB system still has the same finish time.

Thanks mike. Just wanted to make sure everyone saw how awesome of a race it was even if the wrong winner was crowned

Here is a pic of me and hupo going across the line.
UOTE=RCThunder;6957995]Hey Mike. It was a fantastic close race for sure... down to inches. I will call Greg to post the pictures... not trying to cover anything. We made the call (as you know) that we would go by the transponder for the final. There were a couple circumstances at the race this year that put us in a tough position. I made a couple racers upset, and I apologize. I tried my best to talk to everyone there that was involved. You can count we will learn from this year and work towards making 2011 even better. Thanks everyone once again for a wonderful week of racing. Overall I still feel this was the best 'birds to date and we look forward to next year.

If this was an IFMAR race there would have been two timing computers, a finishline high speed camera and a rule book the size of War and Peace....and you would have been declared the winner. The Snowbirds, IIC, Cleveland and all the other non sanctionsed races have more laid back rules. Basically its common sense rules with the final say going to the race promotor. This ain't you first rodeo...you know this.
I feel for you buddy because I know how hard you work at this but... you are a Pro and you know about transponder placement and you know what rules are or are not in place at any given race. Sometimes it dosen't go your way. When that happens professionals think about their fans, their image and their sponsors, take their lumps and quietly walk away. I have personally witnessed this many times and so have you. So, let it go....
#517

this is why you should have your transponder in the right place on the chassies.....
#518

if photo finish were to determine the winner, then to be fair the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc finishes will have to be done by photo finish. difficult to implement and makes amb use irrelevant.
amb is probably the best way. i think organizers made the right call and the right winner crowned.
thanks.

^^ I actually agree with this guy. I didn't until I thought about his post. I mount my transponder on the front bulkhead to get it as close to the front of the car as I can for this very reason.
Also, Mike says he announced before the race they were going by transponder records, so it's a no-brainer really.

Jilles,
I talked to Hupo after the race and he told me he had his transponder farther back then what i had it. I personally thought it was in the bumper but he told me it was farther back then that, The only thing i can think of that happend is when he hit me he slammed me into the outside wall and the front of my car was going up and down on the board. So all this transponder placement is null.
Adrian,
I have let it go. I was just a bit confused as to why mike would tell the guy that did take the pics to NOT post them at first ? It was the best race of the weekend and i felt like i got the wrong end of the stick. As for my sponsors they are behind me 100% and would hope i would stick up for myself and them if i felt like something was wrong and had proof.
As i stated before I am over the fact Hupo won. He deserved it as much as i did . I just want to make sure the next race something like this does not happen again.
Maybe next year and Roar and All major type races will have placement for all personals for each class.

I don't see what the problem is. It's clear that Hupo's car crossed the line first....... Oh wait, you guys were running COUNTER clockwise.
