You're Welcome.

I want to add a note regarding my Ford to BMW comparison a few posts ealier, and this doesn't necessarily apply to anyone specifically, but to everyone in general. While I like Ford and have owned many over the years, BMW makes a better product, but you pay for it.

So for anyone contemplating the choice between an Associated TC5 to an Xray T2 '009, if you can't tell the difference in quality between a BMW and a Ford, than you should buy the TC5, as nobody will want to hear you complain about how much this or that costs when talking Xray.

my tc5 is about to win the league at the local club against a shower of xray's and one mi3. Yeah the build quality is pants but the speed out of the box is there!

I've had both cars. I started with the TC5 and now have a 009. It's always a matter of personal preference, but I can tell you that I believe the XRay wins. The parts are more expensive, but they are much more durable and therefore you're not replacing as many parts, guaranteed. It's actually very easy to get parts, even if you LHS doesn't carry them. Nexus racing has anything you'll ever need and you get it quick. After you get used to the fit and finish of an Xray, it'll make everything else seem sloppy.

However, yes, I've seen people be very competitive with TC5s and seen them beat Xrays and Cyclones.

Then you'll never have concern over parts.

Xray parts are NOT hard to get. You can get them at nexusracing, stormerhobbies, and amainhobbies shipped to your door in just a couple days. So while that certainly isn't supporting a local store, at least you know you CAN get them without any issues. I have done lots of business with all 3 companies and all 3 shine.

The easy answer is, the race is won by the driver, NOT the car. Either car can be setup to drive perfectly well around any given track. The difference between the two kits will be durability, precision, and quality control. Both cars have the same kinds of adjustments, diffs, spools, shocks, etc.. and if you look at their design, aren't all THAT different.

Buy the one that more people are running at your track.... if you can afford it. If the one being run is out of your price range, running the TC5 as a more affordable option will NOT put you at any specific disadvantage.

When I jumped back into RC, I bought myself and my GF xray 009s for no reason other than I wanted to try out an xray kit after years of running schumacher and losi. I can contest.... the xray kit is a FABULOUS kit, and goes together without a hitch. But I gaurantee you I am not faster on my track because of it.

The one thing I love about my tc5 is parts availability. Sure, you can get your xray parts quick and easy online, but that wont help you when you break an arm after the 3rd qualifying round.

For my Tc4, I pretty much bring 2 cars worth of parts with me. Just because I would hate to not be able to finish because of a $2 part I can't get. I don't have that problem with my tc5.

Again, you can argue that the xray will break a lot less.
