im new to the rc electric scene coming from the nitro rc, does lipo batteries need to be balanced all the time per charge ??? how often do they have to be balanced? and how can everyone say that the ice is a good charger without the balancer. so is it ok to charge lipo batteries without balancing them??

yes you can charge without balancing and no you dont have to balance every charge. balancing is over rated.

Good thing is that you probably don't really need a balancer with a 1, 2, or 3 cell LiPo Battery. The batteries just don't get out of balance that easy, that is unless one has a bad connection or is going bad.

You can borrow or use someone else's balancer about every 2-3 months, and watch the numbers as it charges/discharges, and you will see that the cells are almost always within .02 volts of each other.

Over the years, I've put my LiPo's on balancers and have not yet ever found any of mine to be out of balance by more than .02 volts. My experiences are with SMC, Orion, and MaxAmps LiPo's.

Just 1-month ago, a local racer brought his 3-year old Orion 4800mAh 15C battery to me to balance, as he had never done it. To my surprise, this 3-year old pack was .01 volt out of balance. IMO, this does not even warrant the need for a balancer.

Save your money and enjoy running your LiPo battery.

I only balance low quality cells, as they are more apt to become very unbalanced after a while.

when your at the track next time just ask someone to do it for you. as stated above, you only need to do it every 2-3 months and even then i find that the cells are barely off from one another if at all.
