I thought I join the survey bandwagon.....

I like to know your favourite stock motors.... and why.... like:

Motor: whatever make
For: revs like hell
Against: no torque!!!
Remark: Good on long tracks with long straights and not much infield...
Rebuilds: often / not often etc...

I am only talking about straight out of the packet ones, but you can also recommend any simple upgrades like changing brushes or springs to improve its performance.... we can call it

Best Upgrade:

If you dont want to give the game away then we can leave that out...

Of course you can mention several of them.... I just like to find out more on the general characteristics of what is available out there....

Motor - trinity p2k.

only mod - integy x-pattern 4%silver brushes - these brushes improved punch a lot.

Characteristics - people at one club think I'm running a mod (occasionally) (but at another club i get blown away).

Brushes - Orion pro stock
springs - red / green

Brushes make a big difference to performance over standard brushes.
Keeps up with Sosidge down the straight and very punchy on the infield: sneaky:

Trying out a Reedy Rage this week fitted with Reedy 768 brushes, Trinity red / green springs.
Let you know how this compares.

i like the trinity gm3....i use reedy 766 brushes, with a cavity, and i use either green or red springs, depending on the track layout....

Purple/red springs

MVP
.140 4499 Trinity Brushes, like them better than the 766.
Red/Green or Purple/Red springs depending on track

At the moment the P2K2 is the faster motor of the two.

Right now I'm running a P2K2, 767 brushes, red/green springs. It's good down the straights, but a little soft out of the corners.

I like the P2K, P2K2, MVP, GM3, but each one at a different time.

Can anyone tell me what the different spring rates are for the brushes i.e softest to hardest.

What effect does running stiffer or softer springs on the + or - sides?

Trips.... do you lathe your comm at every race? how many runs do you get between each cut?

Currently I am using 2 motors, a standard P2K Pro and BRM stock... I am trying new brushes on the P2KPro soon. The BRM is a very torquey motor and it really starts to shine after having 2 packs thru it.... but I find the hard silver (180 degrees or so ) springs maybe a little tough on the comm, so I am trying to use RED/GREEN combo or Purple springs and see if it makes it any different...

I think this is right but am not sure. Hard springs give the motor more torque and soft ones give more rpm. I think. Don't trust me to this .

Yorkie... On the Team Orion site they have a range of springs which are listed in degrees.... the wider, the stronger... much easier then remembering colours...

WIth Trinity... I only know green is softer than red which is softer than purple, the hardest I will go except for the one cam with my BRM....

From what I have gathered.... the tighter the spring, you get less RPM but more torque... but either too light or hard you will get more comm wear....Light springs = more bounce and hard springs = more grind!!! can't win.....

That's a great help. I'm getting to the stage where I can tell a big diference between different brush an spring combos.

I looks like red / green springs are the favourite and brushes seem to be down to personal choice.

Stock or mod, I cut my comms at least after every race day, and if theres enough time between rounds I might cut after two rounds.

I relpace the brushes if they look discolored or if they are getting short. Otherwise I just clean them up and re-serrate and break them in again.

Good advice Trips.... I have been trying a new motor and I had the third runs on my second to about sixth= seven run... and on my ninth and tenth run I noticed the motor feels a bit slower.... so I guess after runnind in I get max performance for about 4 runs before it starts to deteriorate....

Looks like i need to import a Team Orion laths as it seems no one got them here... and others are 40% more $$$

Motor: P2k, black springs Trininty 4500 brushes

For: track spec motor, good balance of tourque and revs

Against: could rev a little higher I think

Remarks: good motor, I like spec class because it levels the playing feild

Rebulds: Whenever someone I know whips out thier comm lathe...
