I plan on getting a SMC 1 cell 25c lipo for a new pan car class at our local track and I want to know just how necessary these boosters are that you all are talking about? I was under the impression that a 1 cell lipo would provide similar performance to a 4 cell nimh pack; and that is without using a booster for the lipo pack! Am I wrong? Please help!

I just don't want to go and spend another $40-50 on top of the price of the lipo pack to get decent performance.

Or is this yet another case of racers using boosters because they are never satisfied and always want to go as fast as possible and if they don't have one and someone else does then they are at a disadvantage! I'm not interested in ballistic speeds, just decent performance.

Why not have a class where boosters are not allowed?

The booster is for the receiver, servo and transponder, not the speed controller and motor. They are necessary in most applications. They don't increase your drive speed, they make sure that you won't lose reception at the most critical moment... like at the 5 minute mark.

Thank you for your help. Now I understand. I will either get a booster like the Novak or a small reciever pack.

I am a little surprised none of you have mentioned this. It is pretty new from trinity but a great idea.

life batteries are only 3.3V per cell. This eliminates the need for a voltage regulator with the lipo reciever packs. IT will be light as well and has an attached switch. Great idea for the 1S guys that don't want to run a novak booster or similar device.

Yeah that works too. The switch is a nice touch though.

I have been running a Slapmaster T-bar, 100% 1s lipo, 1/12th car for a while now. It uses the current configuration of 1s lipos. Several ran at Vegas IIC. How long has the car pictured been out?

Default 1s saddle pac

has anyone considered the posibillity of running a saddle pack in parallel 1s 2p for powering the motor at 3.7 volts and then off of the same pack running a lead with a diode in a 2s 1p configuration to power the radio gear @ 7.4 volts im sure even the speedo manufactures could even configure a speedo that could accept this as a seperate input and eliminate the voltage regulator. this would in theory get rid of the voltage reg, voltage booster,&rec pac nothing extra to charge or mount on chassis and it would be very easy to balance too if the cells were properly sized this could even work on link chassis. this cant be too hard to figure out guys. sure would simplify life for all as my dad always said k.i.s.s.(keep it simple stupid) batt manufactures and electronics manufactures could easily pull this off im sure its a lot simpler than some of the other stuff that the are currently comming up with.does anyone know why they are not currently entertaining this possibility?
