3rd channel
 

Hi guys. Can anyone tell me what is good for 3rd channel? Is it worth plugging fan that comes with motor heatsink? My receiver has 3rd channel but I have never used it. In fact, I don't really know about this 3rd channel thing. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

3rd channel is for some nitro cars with reverse gearboxes. That's about it's only use.

Controlling a fan with the third channel would be very complex, the receiver does not switch the power on and off, you'd need a box of electronics to process the signal.

However, the 3rd channel slot on the receiver can power fans and transponders as it has a common voltage with the rest of the receiver, they will always be on when the car is switched on.

Can you tell me an example of a common controlling device for fan? Is it worthwhile though? I just need a heatsink with fan to cool down my motor. Nothing complicated. If 3rd channel of receiver will do, I would rather use it. Thanks for your advice.

Most of the heatsink/fan combos are either wired direct to the main battery or plugged into the receiver for power. They aren't controlled, they are just on all the time.

That little switch linked to above might be interesting if you really wanted to be able to switch the fan on and off. For racing there is no need.

I don't know which fan they are, but there are some motor heat sink/ fan set ups that have a thermal couple in them so the fan kicks on automatically when the motor hits a certain temp.
I ran one in a CW Dominator on the oval a couple years back.

i use my 3rd channel to power my rear sttering servo on my monster truck...using the mixing function to counter the rear steering against my front..

So where does it get power for this type you mention? Car battery, separate battery, or receiver?
