Water proofing you car!!!!
Hi Guys
Im from the UK, and you guys in the US and beyond probably don't play in the wet, but to those who do, can you give/show ideas how to water proof your cars from the rain please. Cheers TCCFM |
I simply put my electronics in balloons and cable tie the end closed. I used blu-tak over the lipo connections and taped up the bottom of the chassis to stop water coming from beneath.
My speed control is an old waterproof MRT Vtrac, and I made no effort to protect my motor, but possibly if you balloon up the speedo to that could work. If you do though I would go easier on the punch setting to try to keep the speedo cool. Regards Neal |
Buy a tt01e, dont use ball bearings- plastic bushings will be fine.
Use a sport tuned motor paired with a waterproof esc like MuchMore Shift ESC or Mtroniks waterproof ESCs. Open up your servo and put heavy grease to the output gear to keep the water from getting in, use a sealant on the seams before you close them up. You can put your RX inside a balloon or open it up again and use a sealant on the seams and the open spaces near the crystal before you put it back. I know someone with this set up just for wet applications. Works fine no rusted bearings to maintain. |
Well, as someone who has to play in the wet due to the climate around here, I've water proofed a few RC's. Servos are waterproof enough anyway, I drove my revo in the snow and they were fine. The receiver I wrapped in cling film. If I was going to race an electric in the rain I'd use an Mtroniks ESC, something like a sniper 12 (branded as modelsport (Hence only sold on modelsport.co.uk), but made by mtroniks).
Also, you'll want some pit shimizu D20 tyres, they handle great in the wet. |
FYI you dont need to waterproof brushed motors (not sure about brushless). Back in the day we used to break them in by running them submerged in water or motorspray.

running in the wet
Hi Malc
I think if running in the wet in the uk your best bet would be to go with a solution like the one below Mark http://x06.xanga.com/45ac511b2963119...w147209607.jpg |
You should recognise the last one Malc ;)
The 'snorkel' on the first one is apparently a drinking straw. http://www.rctech.net/forum/attachme...0426386-4b.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3645/dscf1504y.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...erproofing.jpg |
i wrap my speedo in tissue paper then in a balloon
same with the reciever never bother with the servo or motor but if it is too wet then i just dont bother racing:lol::lol: |

i have personally used electric tape to cover spektrum rx, lipo connections, usb connector (mamba max) and the wires underneath the esc... not a permanent solution but for a few runs in light rain i did not experience any problems...
infact due to the cooler temps the car ran a few minutes longer using trak power 2s 5400mah lipo i really think that esc's, rx and lipo should just come water proof |
