Default Academy STR-4 Pro II:Anyone still run/interested in

The STR-4 threads are all dead, Academy looks to have dropped out of the TC business. It looks like some dealers still have some old kits for sale and some parts. One car surfaces on Ebay ever so often. I have a roller I bought on E-Aby couple years ago but I have been afraid to run it because if I break something not sure if, or how long it would take to find the part.

I have read some threads that sort of characterized this car as an over priced HPI PRO 4 Korean knock off, if I remember correctly their was some talk of part being interchangeable.

I was just wondering if there was anyone who was interested in this vehicle or was still running it maybe in Vintage or ?

You should be able to get parts directly through MRC since they are the importers of Academy kits. I get my parts there for my GV-2.

Default I'm not sure yet

I've been looking at it for vintage oval. But, only place for parts is MRC. No hop up parts(not that you would need or want any in 21.5).

From what I can tell it was "inspired" by the Pro4 but none of the parts interchange.

I wonder about the cone type wheel hubs. How is the power transfer, just by suface friction?

If anyone has one of these they want to sell let me know. Needs to be an STR4 Pro II, not the Pro I.

looking to get another one of these. I am actually quite happy with the one I have now. It works excellent for VTA and the parts are very durable as they are pretty much oversized for sedan (basically for the 1/10 4wd buggy). Works good when you hit stuff.

It's the same setupo they used on the SBV2 off-road buggy. Once tightened they offer enough friction to work surprisingly well. We've had more than one instance of the right side V2 wheels unscrewing themselves on the track though, requiring loctite or ca glue to hold the screws tight. After loctiting the cones together the problem went away.

Default Afraid to run

Ever since I got this car as 'roller' off E-Bay, cheap, I have wanted to set it up and run it but my fear is one bad crash, I break a suspension part and I am screwed. I feel ike I need to find a second one just so I can canibalize it for parts.

Are you sure it parts are not interchangeable with the Pro4?

+1

But if you want something that has parts easily available, you can't really go wrong with a TC3 or TC4 for a shaft driven car.

if anyone else has a car they want to sell, drop me a pm.

Well, since I am running the vehicle still, figured I would post.

I am running the vehicle currently in the VTA class.

It took me a bit to figure out a setup that I could drive, but the past race my car felt about the best it has been. I'll post the specifics on my setup once I get a chance. Liked it so much, another one is on the way for my daughter to drive in VTA.
