Default amb personal transponder?

i have heard and seen these but what is the benifit of them other that they are smaller and lighter? dont they run on your battery? wouldnt that drain it or take some of the power away (i imagine it would be very very hard to notice though)?
Thanks

I see more and more running personals.. as I do too,,, It is easier to get to the line and not worry about getting one from the anouncing booth .. you dont have to put a hole in your body, or make a mount for your car and it runs off the battery but Ive never had a prob with power ,,, more convient and less start time...you should get one too .....

I just got one thursday and I tried it out at our regional race this weekend and it definately made my schedule a lot easier!!! We were only supposed to run 3 heats on Sat., but with the threat of rain for sunday, we got all 4 in with pretty short breaks in between rounds. It was a lot easier not having to go through tech each time to get it and then bring it back everytime. lol. They're definately a good investment.

Each one has a number on it. You just give the number to your track guy and he enters that in to the computer. It's also a good idea to have the number wrote on the rear window so they don't have to look for it (the number ) at tech when checking the sign-up sheets.

FYI:
-IF you travel be sure to check if the track your at uses Personal TRansponders. Our club had an old AMB system and software last year and while running a trophie race some out of town racers forgot to disconnect there PT while using our handout transponders. On old AMBs the PTs can cause some racers to double count or not count at all. WE discovered the problem instructed all racers to disconnect or remove there PT while at our track.

True, we've also noticed that at my local track, where they still use the old analog AMB system(the PT system is a big investment). As for how they work, they don't really need to worry much about specific frequencies, because the PT's actually transmit their individual serial number(so every last one of them is different), so that once you've entered your PT's serial number & it's entered into the computer, the system will know that that number is yours & will identify you by name.....
