How much do these cars weigh? I will find out this weekend but just curious if I have been racing underweight (<1450g) for my class.

For Tamiya GT3 21.5 class the weigh limit it 1400 grams.

I weighed in at last Tamiya race at TQ. my car is all stock plastic chassis w/ ti screws, shorty lipo, stock weight body, stock spoke wheels. It weighed in at 1480 grams.

I have since added a graphite impregnated chassis and light weight body. It should weigh in below 1400 grams now. I hope; )

I use long batteries so I should be OK. thanks.

How do people use lipo packs for TCS on the tub chassis without grinding any plastic? I had to trim/grind some to get my rectangular lipo seated somewhat securely.

last time i raced TCS, we were allowed to grind the bumps down for proper lipo placement. but that was 3 years ago.

I don't grind, it lays just a little angled. probably won't hurt anything. I know hot shoes that don't bother grinding still going fast. You are allowed to grind for Tamiya.

I currently have FDR 3.48 with 88t spur and 52 pinion. What size gears do you use to get lower FDR? I can't seem to use 53t pinion because of lack of space.

for racing with the Reedy 17.5 I run plus or minus 4 to on FDR for 21.5 a tooth or two smaller on the pinion.

You may have reached the max because of the space.

Honestly, I've never had need to gear mine that tall(only been running mine in the VTA class at Mike's Hobby Shop in TX, it's the closest to where I live, though it's about 250 miles away), but if a 52 tooth pinion is as big as you can fit, tehn you'll probably need to look for smaller spurs(I believe there are some as low as 78 teeth, maybe even smaller), that might be your best bet.
As for weight, with a driver figure, I think mines comes out to about 1570g(& Mike's is now enforcing the 1550g min., so I'm good to go with it), if your track is enforcing all the USVTA rules, then you should still be fine, I'd think(once you have a driver figure in there, & use a full size battery)....

I'd guess if the wheels don't have any strange kind of offset to them, then they should be ok. And if you have any problems, you could either use wheel shims or some 6mm wide hexes on the axles(which is what I use to fit the 26mm & 31mm wheels that are specified for the VTA class)....
