I use a Jr R1 which i find great the only downside is it is not synthesized so i have to buy crystals but the main advantage of the R1 over the other Jr radios is that it comes in a PCM version

R1 is the ticket, I had it for over 3 years and the radio is still the ticket for a high performance radio.
Let me know if you have any questions.

There are photos floating around of a Synth module for the R1 from a Japanese hobby show. The same show had synth modules for the Futaba 3Pk and an updated Airtronics M8 (looked mostly cosmetic)
If the R-1 had synth available it would be great....but swapping crystals isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
Keep in mind that synthesised receivers are still quite large comparatively. This may not effect you....but I'm VERY happy with my R1 and tiny receivers for my 1/12 and 1/18 scale cars...and you'll find the smaller receivers to be a blessing in ANY car or truck that uses a radio box...normally they have plenty of room...but a smaller receiver allows you to add additional padding to help extend the life of your electronics and reduce glitching
