some of this is subject to change, right now we (I) don't know if it will be 2008 or 2009 spec, but the capability is certainly there to release different versions for different eras. Grooved tires will be options, and there will be a low-nose version nose (the pictures show a high-nose version) so draw from that what you will

AFAIK right now this will be a kit with no electronics included, official F1 licensing for pre-painted bodies would be astronomically high so if it's sold in pre-painted RTR form it'd probably be with generic bodies (blue/white, red, yellow/red/blue, silver/red/black, etc.) but this is just speculation.

I've already started saving up
Thanks for the link.

From the HPI website: "...awesome 5-piece polycarbonate bodyshell..."

Does anyone else think "Awesome" and "5 piece bodyshell" don't belong in the same sentence?

If we count the driver helmet as one piece, where (and why) are the other 4?

OK, thanks. That doesn't sound too bad.

So my next concern would be the exposed 3 gear diff (see the very good photos on the HPI Europe site) - just looks like a pebble / carpet fiber collector. Guess the reason for that is to make you buy the upgrade ball diff.

Still looks like a cool car.

Those numbers are just what i remember from the model in the display at LongBeach. Seems to look the same as the pics on the Euro site.

I have the same concern about the gear diff. This should be summed up as a starter kit. Very cool starter kit.

4-cell 19 turn can be very fast in a direct drive car

and don't forget about 4-cell mod...

and also there are gearing options as well... you can always gear up.. and with the exposed motor and functional cooling from the bodywork you can gear a silver can to the moon and still keep it cool.... I was watching the ABC class run at RCX this past weekend, and they were running 47-51 tooth pinions on silver cans (67t spurs)... and they stayed cool

From the pics on the European site, it shows that the front and rear both use hex adapters to mount the wheels. Hopefully they will be the same size hex as the Tamiya F201 wheels.

As far as batteries go, I wonder how well an Orion 2400 might fit in that chassis.

ha, those are the big versions from the HPI EU site - at least they didn't watermark them

e: IMO this would be a fantastic club race car - silver can, 3.7v LiPo or 4-cell NiMH and away you go. The only thing a 'racer' would NEED to upgrade is the ball diff, beyond that you'd just be adding bling, especially at silver can speeds.

The diff. definitely has to go. We run silver cans with our tamiya f1's with a lipo 7.4 volts and it has decent speed. At 3.7 Volts it might be too slow, this car may need a 19turn motor with 1 cell lipo or 4 cell niMh.

+1 not that I hate the diff but, having to order an HPI spur when there are robinsons and PRS spurs waiting at the LHS.

OK after seeing the hex hubs for the wheels Im wondering if the body of this new HPI car will fit the old Tamiya F201. New wheels and shells WOOT!

ah yes 19-turn will be cool with this, I think the idea is that you don't need gobs of graphite and CNC'd aluminum with a brushless 3.5 to have fun

Yeah with the gear diff only HPI F10 spurs will work I think, but HPI spurs are pretty good

When/where/will this be available? My wife and son are going to Japan in 3 weeks and asked me if there is something they get me while they are there...

They will be in Toyko for the most part and a couple days in some other city I can't pronounce...
