Nice l-o-n-g thread. Looks like there'll be some reading to do to get up to speed...

I've got a Formula 10 sitting on back-order waiting for it to bump up against the release date - late July according to the on-line hobby shop I buy from.

My F10'll go 4 round cell NiMH and silver can motor. Really excited about getting my hands on this kit. Should be a fun build. Not sure how any spec class will flesh out here on the Gulf Coast. So I just figure on setting up some cones and having at it on my own. Hope I remember how to turn a corner...

Wow 17 inches long. This might get me into road racing. HPI webpage still says this summer for delivery.

...and wheelbase comes in at 11.14" (283mm). That puts it 0.1" over the ROAR max of 11" for 1/10 CART/IRL/F1 type cars. Not sure if that's an issue or not. I've been out of mainstream RC for 4years, so it may be a non-issue. Either that, or someone is already working it. Looks like all the other dimensions fall w/in the rule book I hold.

No matter, I'm still up for it.

The last time F1 was raced at a ROAR race may have been the 1998 carpet nats...

That long ago? Part of my re-learning process. I was r/c bashing the dirt in Korea in 1998. Please pardon my ignorance. Thanks.

What is or are the MSO (Major Sanctioning Organization) for r/c F1 in the U.S.?

By default, tamiya Tamiya TCS races are the only actual rules that are in place for F1 that are commonly followed. Of course, it's for Tamiya cars only.

Most people seem to race 7.4 lipo and silver cans locally, since that is what Tamiya is doing. I'm sure most tracks would let you race if follow the power plant guidelines.

There is also a Southern USA group running The All Star series with 2 classes of F-1, F-1 4 cell 17.5(27T) and 6 cell silver can. Several other groups use these rules as well. It also sounds as if the 13.5 single cell Lipo will also be an option for the F-1 class this fall.

Default Lipo

Will a 7.4 LIPO from MaxAmps fit? THAT is the question...With F1's gaining ground, why would HPI go "1/12th scale"? Anyone selling a vintage Super F1 for cheap?

Default Damn

I have two Maxamps lipos that have a lot of life left in them. Would hate to have them sitting in the corner doing nothing. Oh well, if I am going to switch up, may as go all out.
