I just wrapped the esc and rx with plastic(piece from plastic bag and zip tied it tight,. Got balloons to use next.

No problems so far, but if you are using brushless, I dont know how that will work, brushed is not that difficult to use when wet.

The receiver is fairly easy to seal, but be aware that it can still short over the connectors. Back in the days I used some sort of electronics sealant to cover the entire printboard inside, and vaseline to cover the connectors. Shoegoo or similar (apparently in the UK there's a lighter version called Lazygoo which seems to do the job pretty well) to seal up the edges and cable entrance, vaseline on the shaft. I used an MRT waterproof ESC, but a ESC can be done in much the same way, provided it doesn't get too hot. Never bothered with balloons and such.

Note that this was with brushed mild modifieds, and NiMh packs. Ymmv with current lipo and brushless.

thanks guys ref water proofing. I'm using brushless which seemed to be working fine, it was just the receiver that stopped. I'll give it a try next time.

a few years ago, at a HPI Challenge in New Jersey, we had a HUGE rain delay - track completely under water...and Andy from HPI has his cyclone with brushless and lipo (and this was infancy of BL) and had ZERO issues...

he just covered the receiver and speedo (with HPI stickers, of course) and he ran on that wet track...it was awesome to watch..

took the car off, let it dry and everything was good

I believe motor only has rusting problems to worry with water. ESC and RX have electrical problems.

I have used brushless on boats and unsensored(lol) motor did survive many sunken ships, but sensored motors is the thing I´m not sure... -if the sensor shorts, maybe that can damage the esc?

I have one brushed f104 with cheap electronics for rain and onboard video and another with quality parts for racing, makes it easy to drive one on wet surfaces when electronic are worth less then 50 usd ..(compared to ~300$ worth of elec.that my X1 has)

i have just 1 f104w and use it in mildly wet conditions at times. Yea it has a free to me brushed esc and rx. plus wheels outside body limit how wet it gets

I went to TQ. Sean helped me get it set up. By the end of the night it was running pretty good. Just need some softer front springs and better tires.
It was pretty fun to drive. Cant wait to get it on the track again.

Converted my F104ProX1 to wide configuration! For those who want to do this, the parts i used are as follows::
Carbon Reinforced Frt F103 suspension arms:::#54153
3x31mm stainless shaft F103::::#9804420
Frt ball bearings 5 x 8 unflanged-----need 4 of them
F103 frt and rear tires
F103 frt and rear rims
If using stock plastic servo holder parts you will need #9804419 spacer set
Optional Parts:
Either F103 or F104W body set
I bought F103 F1 Turbuckle set #53150 but you use any metric one's of correct length.
You may need to order c clips if you don't have extra's because wide front uses 3 per side up front versus 2 per side for narrow F104.

You don't necessary need F103 or F104W wide body set. I going to use an regular F104 Pro body set that i have lying around but i will eventully get a wide body set.

Hope this helps for those looking to do wide conversion. It's allot cheaper than buying the F104 GP new.
