Just bought a F104W GP Edition kit with some 3racing hop ups.... going to try the stock Tamiya rubber tires (soft front / hard rear) and the Tamiya stock foam tires (soft front / hard rear again).
I'm going to turn speed passion Reventon PRO ESC w/ Speed Passion 5.0R V3 MMM Competition Motor -- is this setup okay?
Servo - Savox 1251 w/ R603FF Futaba receiver.

Anyway that's the only thing i would suggest... slower motor, other than that you should be fine.

Anybody tried the new Ride R Compound tires jet?
My question is if there is adifference with the rims. Are they still the same ?
I ask because i want to use them on a Hpi F10 and wanted to know if they fit the ride rims like the H1 compound did.
So make sure thatthey are not another diameter or so

On my indoor, tight , textured surface track, the front deliver less grip than s1 super soft , the rear slightly more grip than s1 super soft. Temp around 25-30*c ambient ....

Is that a 5 turn motor? ( The speed passion website wasn't so specific). If so, good luck with that. Most people run 21.5 or 17.5 and the lowest i have ever seen anyone drive an f1 car is a 10.5 with a corally NGX (super wide rear foams).
Anyway that's the only thing i would suggest... slower motor, other than that you should be fine.

5T motor is too much for a F103/F104 car, if you want to use this 5T or 4.5T brushless motor you should have bought a proten 235 mm car!!
You canīt compare a F104 chassis with a touring car. Itīs pointless.

Is there, or has there ever been a gear diff option for the F103 or F104? Would that type of diff even work on an F1 car?

as far as it working on a Direct drive F1 - i doubt you'd be able to get one to fit and even work as well as the diffs on the F103/F104
probably if/when you'd ever see a gear diff on a 12th scale - they you'd know a gear diff would be useful for a F1 (since they are both direct drive chassis)

You are never going to see a modern fluid filled gear diff in an F1, purely because you would be adding so much more weight to the rear axle on the diff side you would have to balance it out by adding even more on the other end of the axle, all increasing the rotational inertia of the axle.

Tamiyas first F1s all had a gear diff, as did their early 1/12ths, Tamiya only went to a ball diff when they introduced the F101. Today the HPI F10 comes with a gear diff, but it is really only designed to be easy to assemble and for bashing rather than racing. The problem of the open gear diff is there is no way of controlling the diff action, it just runs free and you can't limit the diff action so any wheel slip means you have no forward drive at all until both tyres grip again.

i guess i was blocking out those horrible diffs
