I know this has all probably been discussed somewhere in this thread, but I don't want to read through 200 pages of it.

Once I get some money, I am hoping to buy a F104 or F104W to run at an indoor carpet track. I also will be running my Associated TC5R on this track.

1) Are both the F104 and F104W ROAR legal cars?
1a) if they are both ROAR legal, is the F104W a better handling car since it is wider?
2) all my batteries are lipos that have the 4mm plugs for the wires that go vertically into them. Will these batteries work in the F104?
3) What rubber tires should I get to fit on the F104W?
4) Are there any upgrades that I should get right away (like the aluminum motor mount, or softer rear shock spring or anything else)?
5) My TC5 uses standard 64 pitch associated gears. Can I replace the tamiya spur gear with an Associated gear, so that I use that same gearing on both cars?
6) I thought that somebody made some sort of better steering parts than the stock Tamiya parts, but I can remember who. Is the Tamiya steering good or is there a better system? If so, from whom?

thanks.

Not that there is a ton of difference , but I wouldnt get the W.i you are in the states the trend is the narrower cars. A W can be converted to a narrow car fairly quickly and inexpensivly though.
Tamiya and others make gear adapters to run normal 64 pitch spurs. There are ways to make your batteries work, if you PM me I can help you figure out what you need .

1. F104 was ROAR legal at the Nats. F104w was not. They are both easily converted to the other with a frontend swap and tires.
1a. F104w handle a little better. Check with your track to see what width rules they run. Some tracks don't care while others run the 180mm or 190mm cars only.
2. Yes. I use them too.
3. I used shimizu f3 mediums and r3 Softs. Worked well on medium grip carpet.
4. Turnbuckles and bearings. The rest as you go.
5. You need the $2 spur gear adapter and you can use any spur you want.
6. See #4. Lunsford or really anybody makes better turnbuckles than the stock ones.

Have fun. Lots of it.

hey dave,
get the f104w gp, i have one and its a pretty sweet kit! i can def recommend gettin mods such as a rm-01 damper and a heavy weight pivot post and youre good to go! i put together the f104w gp and i actually like the whole look of it that im thinking of buying ANOTHER one to race cos the first one just looks so damn good as it is! and u get 2 sets of ffront and back wings, all the bling bits, and all the screws are hex head, which i hope is a standard from now on! so you get to save yourself the cost of the titanium screws

Are the wings different or just the same one as a spare?

Wings are the same in the f104w gp kit, altho one set is white the other black. U get 2x Tyrrell front wings, (one of which I have fitted in the photo) and 2 lotus rear wings, altho I'm a fan of the trg advance wing as it looks like the FW16 rear wing so that's fitted in the photo. The f104w gp is a fantastic kit with all the hop ups you'll ever want, apart from the std side roll damper, which is recommend getting the rm-01 damper to use instead as its a sealed unit u can buy individually as opposed to the kit included one which is easily contaminated and from a few posts on here, fairly easily broken. Hope this helps!

Looking to pick up an f1 car. Have a few questions.

1. did the F104W GP kit just get released? It looks to be a new item.

2. What is the best handling body(ies) that tamiya makes for Asphalt racing?

thanks a bunch.

looks good mate....the ultimate is the X1 for rubbers but this is a close second....the + for the WGP... you get a body and 2 sets of wings as with the X1 you get nothing but because of the WGP's old front end i can use my f103 wheels and tires.....

then again i could get a black special and soft tbar and give it a try......i still like the friction damper setup for some reason..
