The diff has cheap bushings instead of bearings and the front wheels use overgrown "washers" as bearings. You have to lube up the axles to use them. Very disappointing. I heard that the wide stance makes it handle better than the narrow PRO models. So, I'm slowly turning it into a F104W "PRO". After driving though, I have to say that I really like it.
odd, mine has real ball bearings on the rear, but the bushings in the front and the cheapo turnbucles too. Which one did you get? I have the mp4/6

Mine came with the rear axle bearings but the diff came with bushings as did the front wheels.

The F104W is not a pro kit so as with any Tamiya kit it doesn't come with full bearings and uses z bend wires for steering links. That is normal for a Tamiya car.

Ah, okay. I'm kinda new to the Tamiya scene. Tower has a mistake in the description and it says it comes with a full "set" of bearings. I totally didn't like the z bend wires. Lots of slop. Mine did come with axle bearings, but that was it.

Doesn't surprise me...Tower has a lot of stuff in inventory so it isn't surprising there is some incorrect write ups here and there.

Bushings are usually the first thing to go in a Tamiya kit. That and get a oil filled shock instead of the stock one and you'll have a fine kit. An aluminum motor mount would be good but not necessary. Also you'll probably want to find a softer t-plate.

We're on the same page. I did exactly that. Got the 3Racing Damper and t-plate set. Also picked up the turnbuckle set, Alum diff housing and put REAL ball bearings all around.

Looking for one as i just recieved my F104Pro today.
Or are there other bodies out there that have the looks of the "old" F1 cars like the Mclaren MP4/6?

regards Roy

i have been doing some testing and making minor changes to f104 pro yesterday i was surprised just how hooked up it was and i run a 13.5 in it, i think its time for 10.5.

i was quiet surprised just making a .5 to 1mm adjustment in the rear of the chassi the difference it was made.

I'm fitting a spare TRF tc shock to my 104W. Wondering if someone could give me a starting point for overall length ??
I will be using rubber tyres , outdoors , mid size , low traction surface.

Thanks.

Every time I take my F104 out I enjoy it more and more. Just wish there were more around me to race with.

Here is a short video from the last few days of driving.

I do need to play with my setup some more but I end up just wanting to turn laps. The car pushes a little more than I would like entering and through the middle of the turns. Although I can say my setup is not holding back my laps times. I need to work on getting my line a little tighter. The current setup is more than capable of the tighter line it is the driver that needs work.
