I used to true the foams down on my early f103 days to change roll out...get more punch out of the corners, get better gearing options, play with ride ht. and more. Most of the fast guys used to true them down so low they would be 2-3 heat tires at the most. sick I know
I have gone rubber long ago.
This foam thing is Tamiyas marketing gurus working overtime.
Remember when they switched to rubber on the f103....foam went away and you could not even buy foam for a long time until they re-released the f103 anniversary chassis. Now they started again with the f104. As soon as the different compound rubber tires come out we will start the cycle all over again. Tamiya has to make those $$ somehow.

Don't take this the wrong way guys, but why do you guys bother with trueing your tires? When I get a fresh set of foams or rubs, I just slap 'em on and RUN! I've NEVER had an issue... Just curious.
Sounds like alot of work just to get the same results I get just by putting my tires on and run.

For example having a 6 split means 6mm size difference between front and rear. Allowing one tire to spin faster than the other. One tire is pulling faster and the other is pushing whereas if both tires are the same size they are spinning together. Think of it as overdrive. Finding the right split for your track/gearing is essential. Makes you go faster more efficiently. To early need Coffee

I had a rather frustrating night the other night. I think I know what my problem(s) were but I'd also like to run it by you to see if anyone else can give me some more insight.
I was running my F104 Pro the other night. It was about 3degs c so it was cold, and I had forgotten my warmers and traction compound... problem 1. So yes, there wasn't much grip to be had.
The problem I had was that the diff appeared to be slipping after turning. It's a strange thing to try and explain so please bare with me.
If I held the car at a stand still, turned the wheels left, gunned the throttle, the car would spin out, as you would expect. Drop the throttle and the car stops almost instantly.
From a stand still, turn the wheels right, gun the throttle. The car hardly turns or spins out at all. The motor powers up, but there's not the same action from the car. Drop the throttle and the motor slows down a lot slower than when the car is turned the other way.
The result of this is that when I come out of a left corner, I can drive away. When coming out of a right, there's times when you can gun the trottle and the car hardly increases in speed at all, certainly doesn't spin out.
I think the problem is in the diff, and will be rebuilding that soon enough, but does anyone else had some other ideas?
Note: holding both wheels, there is no slip in the spur....

like the other said, they suffer traction rolling on carpet because stock foam is too big. i also feel the same on asphalt. even though i always adjust the ride height to be same all the time, there is some diameter range which i feel the car handling is better..
60mm something, i dont remember. yes it is a bit complicated, thats why i prefer rubber on asphalt since the tire wear is very significant.

Front wheels turn fine? Maybe rebuild the diff again making sure that the breville washers are in the correct orientation.

beside the roll out, truing tires also affects handling characteristic..

d.drive seem to be one of the popular places, but your right, out of stock so often. I have come across someone on ebay in italy, and I sent them an email as they produce all sort's of decals for various scales. I asked if they would be producing 1/10 for the Tamiya F60, particularly the Bar Code and they plan to do them within the next couple of weeks. Could anybody tell me if the F104 foam wheels could really fit in RP and Shimizu slick tires?
