4WheelDrift, Grabbed one of my buddies car tonight with the ball stud link and came up with the following values.

LKing = 33.5mm
LCambLnk = 31mm

bobw for world leader.... at least in the rc world!
bob it works for offroad as well!!! i took my car and got claipers and put in the info and wammo it worked. it took me 15 min to get the measurements. now can you explain to us unworthy people how changing the roll centers is good and how it affects the cars ride? if not then i may know someone who can help. this is my new secret weapon it would be really cool if you could animate the changes so that we could see the motion of the suspension as it really moves with different in put values that we enter. i know that in off road seeing how the wheel travels when the arm is commpressed is extremely useful. it tells me how the car will look when turning.

Jdogl, Thanks for feedback. Makes it all worthwhile. This program will work for any what I would call a double 'A' arm suspension. Should even work for full size cars.

The location of the Roll Centre affects the weight transfer when the car rolls. The lower the roll centre the more the chassis will roll in the turns and the more weight will be transfered to the outside tires. Roll centre location also affects the speed at which the car will react. With lower roll centres the car will also react slower as it takes more time for the car to roll and the weight to be fully transfered. Springs and shocks can also have a significant impact here.

If there is an off road setup book out there I would suggest buying it. There are to many variables to do this topic justice here. Also I've never raced off road so I don't want to give you bad advice.

Bob,

Awesome program. I can't wait to get out do some testing using some of things I learn from this program.

Question, in a future release will you be adding the option to change the lower arm angle of deflection from static position which you currently have hard coded to 5deg?

Also how will you be releasing updates to the program?

Has anyone created a model for an Xray T2 or T2 007 they can post pictures of?

Certainly could provide more options on the setup page. Rideheight, and tire dia being two more. The reason for 5 deg on the camber gain calc is it represents 3-4mm chassis movement and seemed like a good number at the time.

I have lots of ideas for improvements and new features it's just my real job is consuming all of my time right now.

Updates is one issue I have yet to fully resolve. I'm still thinking through the easiest way to do it and preserve the changes made by the user to the database. Nothing is ever as easy as it sounds.

Thanks for the links JdogL.

Joe Rocket, Look forward to getting your TC5 model. It would be great if the database contained models for all TC's. Just need more guys like you who want to share.

Bob,

I started creating a model for my Xray 007 tonight and may have found a bug that makes the program crash.

I enter all the basic measurements and then added the Alternate location values. When adding Front suspension Alternate Outer Positions and click save it crashes.

From there every time I open the program and select that model it locks up and I have to terminate the app.

Have you seen this?

Also i have a question on the A-Arm Length. Is this measurement from inner hinge pin to outer c-hub hinge pin? Or is it from inner hinge pin to steering block rotation point which would be where the steering block screws are inserted?

bkSpeedo. Haven't heard of that problem. Can you give me a list of the values you are using and I will find a solution. You can email it to me at

[email protected]

or just post the numbers here. Send the HorOffset and VertOffset values you are using as well.

If you can't delete the model from within the program then just uninstall and reinstall the whole program. It only takes a few seconds. Go to Add/Remove program to uninstall it and then install it as you did the first time (the microsoft apps will not have to be downloaded this time). This will replace the database with the original version and you should be good to go. You will loose any changes you have made to other models as well so if you want to preserve them write down the values or use Alt-PrintScrn method to copy a screen capture to the clip board and then paste it into Word or some other program so you can print it out.

We will find the problem.

The measurement points are always to suspesnion pivot points. So the A-Arm length would be as you first stated to the C-hub pivot. If you were looking at steering geometry then you would use the distance to the steering block screws.

Not sure if it will work on a Mac. Depend if the it can run Microsofts .net Framework. Check with Apple or just try and install and see what happens.

Let me know how you make out.

There is a bug in the program that will cause it to crash when creating new models. It seems to be isolated to adding Front Alternate Outer Camber positions only. If you try to add these positions the program will lock up and you will have to use Task Manager to shut it down. It will also screw up the database so the program won't run. The easiest way to get the program running again is to un-install it using the control panel add/remove programs and then just re install it. So far I haven't found the cause but I will.

As soon as I have a fix I'll upload a new version.
