Default The "how to" seal a 1/12th scale chassis thread...

I sealed a couple of oval chassis with CA (thin I think), but they came out like poo! An uneven white(ish) residue? I have seen a couple of killer pans, crystal clear and even, what's the trick? Thanks!! Steve.

Steve, I will be at BBT this weekend (Sat and Sun) I will do it for you. If you can bring some q-tips since those are the best for sealing the chassis (paper towels, even the blue ones dont work as well).

BTW, what car did u pick up? And make sure to sand the edges of the chassis! Although you might have already done that being an oval guy, lol.

I use a dremel with a sanding drum bit to slightly round the edges of the chassis first, then I use 320 grit wet sand paper to smooth them out. Get a Q-Tip and some Zap thin CA and go over the edges, and it'll come out good.

Mark, I tentatively got a YRX-12 (I think) it looks like a 12L3 with a black Yoke chassis (I thought the yoke was SSG?). Very good price. Couldn't resist...however I am a little nervous, a couple of guys on another board said parts where hard to get, if possible to buy a least one more kit for parts?!?! Besides the chassis what is not compatible with the 12L3, Hmmm? I going to work on it this weekend. Will probably be buy BBT on Sunday to pick up my new Ko Helios and possibly a servo (nice!).

Yes...Q Tips work very well.

Don't worry about the YRX spares...Shooters make a nice copy...In fact that may be the chassis that you have!

I will look at it on sunday and short it all out. You probably have a different chassis, which is actuallly a very good thing, since the stock chassis was made for asphalt and is rather out to lunch on carpet.

Default Yok

Steve - much to Mark's chagrin, I bought a Yok last year to try out for asphalt (and am getting ready to put it back together). The only thing not the same as the Associated parts is the rear bulkhead (which is very nice).

What are the Q-tips used for? Applying the CA glue? I've never heard of this procedure done before. I amy try it, but I am going nto practice on some old graphite chassis before I do it to my 12L3.
