cool, thanks for the info. I put a 32 pinion on it this weekend and ran it, but it ran really hot (216 degrees). I then changed back to a 35 to run my monster stock, got sidetracked and forgot to change the motor out and fried it! i literally smoked it on the track during heat 1! Good thing it's only $30! So, I'll run it with a 30 or 31.

Default NEWS FLASH.....Binary Stock bites my FARHVEGNUGEN!!!!

i have had no luck with it in Touring cars
went down 2, then 3 teeth, on 48P gears
went to dual red springs then red + & green -
tried 2 other types of brushes
tried a Monster arm in the Binary can (they appear alike at first...the BS arm is shorter and has 4 less laminations on the stacks)

NO Luck....it's still a dog

mine was the EPIC factory tuned version and had heavy trinity purple springs on both sides. after two 5 min qual heats the arm had wear on the comm equivilent to a Monster with 9 heats on it.

now the offroad guys are gearing them with 15T 48P pinions and they like everything but claim the motor lacks brakes / braking power. brakes worked fine for me in TC?

Try going to a Reedy 767 with Purple (+)/Red(-) springs. Also, if you can, zap the magnets, improves the motor significantly.

Zapping the magnets is a must, even on Pro motors. The BS motor I bought was a Pro and the magents were nearly dead out of the box. I suspect that the magnet were never zapped, and magnets need to be zapped anytime they are removed, cut, and reinstalled in the can (which is exactly what happens with the BS). Anyway, mine ran much better after a zap. It was 10 watts stronger at every AMP step from 20-45 according to my Robi. It was still not as strong as my best MS motors on the dyno or track (stock TC), but it was much better than it was out of the box.

Ok, with this talk of magnet zapping, how are you sure you are zapping the magnets correctly? with quad magnets, wouldn't you need a quad pole zapper? I'm really curious because my Binary puked on me after being overheated.

John, did you try the setup I sent you?

Yeah... no crap.. haha...

I was told to drop two teeth, and run it like it was. Ended up coming off the track at 230*.

Worst thing is, I had better times when I was overgeared. Probably fried the mags, along with the com and anything else. Hopefully it will pick back up after I get a few cuts on the com.

Gary - Doesn't someone at trackside have a zapper? They had one upstairs during the novak race last year, but they wouldnt let me use it. If you know anything, let me know, I wouldnt mind zapping the BS & a monster i heated up...

There isn't a whole lot of people out here that have zappers either. Not at the track anyways.

May be a stupid question, but can you Zap a quad magnet motor with a regular 2 pole zapper ?

Thanks

From what I've heard you just zap them like any other motor.

Thanks

I personaly do not know for sure how the polarity is oreninted in the Binary motors... Orignialy I was lead to beleive that the Reedy Quads were oriented differntly then the EPIC motors, and that the Reedys you would just zap like a regular motor but the EPICs might need some other tecnique that might not even exsist for the masses... but then Recently I've heard that you zap the EPIC's just like a regular motor too...

I do not have a zapper and I have no first hand knowlge of what is the proper thing to do. Mostly I am going by commentst that Todd Putnam has made when I say... 'from what I've heard, you just zap them like any other motor'... I trust Todd about as much as anyone when it comes to motors... so take my comments for what they are worth on this matter... (second had from a good source)

Troy, Brad's going to have his there at the Novak race and he offered to zap my motor for me. Just talking with Russ, plus my own thoughts on it before I talked to him, left serious doubts in my mind whether or not a regular 2 pole zapper would work with a BS. I still gotta think a quad pole zapper would do a better job then a 2 pole zapper.

I'm posting on *gasp* Trinity Tech Talk in hopes that Jim Dieter sees the thread, see if we can get a positive answer on the zapping.
