I just ran my serpent S120 with a 1S Lipo, GTB 4 Cell w/ SS & 17.5 Brushless and the brass Lipo weight plate https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/c...s&pn=MAN133101 (I cut it in half to fit the T-Bar Setup - and evenly distribute the weight) Car came in at exactly 794 grams

The GTB is completely plug and play with the 1S in my experimenting so far.

I am going to rewire the ESC though to install 16g wires and see how that goes.

For a 12th scale rookie - I am LOVING this! I hate to say but I have more fun with this set up then I do my 10th scale.

Please post a pic of your setup, could be very helpfull to those with t-bar cars who are skeptical of the 1s lipo just yet.

Scott please keep us posted on the Mongoose motors trials, I've ben wanting to try this myself. I have the Mongoose esc and it works just fine with a 17.5 and round cells, looking to try it with the 1s and see how it runs on that. For those who have'nt seen the Mongoose system the nice thing with it is you can use standard pinions as the motor shaft is the same as a 540 motor.

Anyone else have a positive input on running 2 cell 7.4v lipo? Please post your success story here and what combos are you running. I definitley have to try the novak mongoose option. Thanks again RColdman!

Hi I have been running my serpent S120 with Tekin RS Pro/ Trackpower 3200mah 2 cell saddle pack 7.4v/ Novak 13.5t motor geared at 60mmpr.

Running indoors on large carpet tracks against 4cell nimh 10.5t cars -- performance wise the 7.4v lipo is slightly faster with better acceleration but its close. I have also tried single cell lipo with 6v rec pack and 6,5t motor this combo was very close on top speed but had a soft feeling acceleration.

Between the two set ups I much prefer the 7.4v lipo/13.5t set up, try it Im sure you would like it

I have been thinking of making my S120 run with saddle Lipo pack. Can you post a pic of how it all fits?

here is my S120 with Lipo - I would have more picture but my camera died to show how I cut the Brass Lipo Plate - but there is the basic wiring idea.

and yes its a rats nest of wires - I broke down and bought a new Servo before I left the track last weekend. I will re-wire/resolder everything to get rid of some of the tweak I noticed in the car.

Cheers,
Yak

That's exactly what I want to hear. A person that tried both setups. It's kinda funny that I race in a fairly large carpet track and race with 19t, 13.5 and 10.5 1 cell cars. A buddy of mine runs the 1 cell 10.5 and let me run it and you are correct the speeds are the same but really had no punch coming in and out of the corners. Feels really lazy.

The fact of the matter is to me about what I really like about the 1/12 scale is its raw power and precise edge of your seat handling. I've only been running the class this year as my second class and it is such a contrast from running my 13.5 touring car.

Although I don't race 1/12th anymore, I can tell you that is the same set-up in the picture that I use in my World Gt chassis. The battery weights as much as the Novak GTB -spectrum reciever.so it balances out.

Thanks for the picture man... What kind of runtime are you getting? Over here, since race in such a small track, we usually have 10 minute mains. I was thinking of putting a battery like this:

What you guys think?

Last weekend was getting the car dialed in - I am fairly confident I can hit 8 mins + with it, tonight and tomorrow night will be dialing in everything further, changing rollout, rewire and resolder stuff and working on correcting a lot of my oversteer on the transmitter.

Anyone running the same setup having issues with their PT?

7.4 lipo in a 1/12 is a little too cramped for me, I will stick with a 1s cell in a 12th. If I need to go faster, there will be a bigger car in my future. Several manufacturers see the future coming and are making a new chassis just for it. Lighter cars are more durable and wear the tires less, just like in full size racing. That is a good thing!

Default Photos of 7.4v Lipo Car Mongoose

To the OP,

Here are some pictures of my current setup. This is a CRC chassis with a 7.4v 20C 2000mah Li-po and the Novak Mongoose 10.5 system. The car weighs 560 grams with the body, and performs extremely well. There are many variations of batteries that may be placed in this chassis, and most are around $20.00. Also, since you only need around 1200 mah, you can get some very small battery packs (1600-2000mah instead of 4000+).

It's a great car, and I don't think you'll be dissappointed with the weight, handling, or cost of the 7.4 setup.

Hey man... thanks alot for the pictures... The only problem I see for me is that my ESC is a bit big, so fitting it with those lipos might be a problem...

Do you mind giving me the dimensions of your ESC? Or the exact model so I can look the dimensions up? Thanks in advanced!
