You're dreaming. See here a video from my race car with just a 540 motor and let us know if you'd be able to race that by the video from the onboard camera. Then think that the real car is doing in excess of 300km/h at times, not in excess of 40km/h like my car:

it's entirely possible that they were testing out the steering before installing a steering rack.

yes, they can do that with F1 cars.
