What is special about the Surikarn and Spashett edition motors?

dontfeelcold,

The differences are in the armatures, tuned for as much power as possible!!
The Surikarn armatures are very similar to the Hara version I think, but without the twisted communtator.

The Spashett motors have slots milled down in the armature. This gives a tremendous magnetic field increasing the RPM allot!!
They are wicked fast!!

Pink,

So, basically it decreases performance???

I had a buddy who tried one and he showed me the dyno sheets before and after and it reduced the the overall power numbers by over 13%. I thought that he was not doing something correctly, but it sounds as though you have had similar results.

Anybody else?

Thanks, Mike

Hmm, notice at the reedy the top four drivers all ran peak/orion 7 singles and the trinity and reedy guys ran 8's or 9's yet they still had the power to keep up. Easier on the batterys and wear so you can run a lower wind but slightly less power maybe?

Michal101,

If you dont run inn the brushes properly, the motor will not perform 100%
It is very important that the brushes are perfectly seated!!
Just run the motor at the track once and it will be all good for the next run!

berger,

Keep up?
The Orion/Peak drivers took the top 4 spots so I guess the others could not keep up that well....
Also, in Europe we only use 12t and the Reedy and Trinity motors etc. are not any faster at all, just allot more work IMO!

I have tested allot with the V2's and I have found them to be better than anything else I have tested. It is not just me either, all of my friends tells me the same thing!

Eirik,

I appreciate your reply, but I have never seen a 13% decrease in a stock motors overall power due to the brushes not being totally broken in. And please keep in mind that the EPIC monster stock motor was brand new so I do not think that the stock EPIC brushes were broken in either.

Please do not take this post the wrong way...I already have two V2 mod motors and absolutely love them and would take them over other brands of mod motors. I am just trying to correlate the same performance and efficiency over to my stock motors.

Thanks, Mike

No problem Mike!!

I was a litle surprised about the result my self...
I just wanted to state that the V2's are a litle sensitive on the brushes when they are brand new....

What springs did you put on by way?
I think Joe Pillars said something about Medium/Hard worked the best for stock motors.

@dontfeelcold,

There is a new brush out, "Edge Brush" they are smaller, not bigger (the sides are cut)
I have heard they are really good, but I have not tried them yet.

Eirik,

I believe that he was using Med springs and sprint brushes. I am hoping to get the motor this week and do some testing my self with my Turbo dyno since I believe it gives more realistic numbers for us sedan racers.

I will let you know how it goes.

Mike

I still feel that some of the reedy motors have a slight edge over the orion equivalents, but at the weekend my 12x1 HS touring had too much torque and i had to swap out for a wimpy double wind.

Team Orion has done a lot of testing with the Edge brush and it does give an increase in power. I immediately noticed a significant increase in punch. Almost all of our drivers in europe have been using the edge brush in almost every application with great results.

Can't seem to find what brush/spring combo the Hara edition motor comes with. Can anyone help. Also I plan on running the Orion mod motor in Pro10 carpet class this year. The track we are running on will be 100X48. Any suggestions on what Orion mod I should run? I was thinking a Hara 8X1. I haven't tried one yet so I might be alittle out of my element here. Also what should I gear the car at?. Any thought would be appreciated. Thanks
