Default Lipo batteries

Hi,

I was wondering what the best Lipo batteries of the moment where.
Because I still hav to buy some for the new outdoor season.
The only thing is they can't be over 4200 Mah and have to be hard cased.
And with the best I mean best price/quality. Best power/punch....
Its for Touring car racing with rubber tire's.

It just depends on how much you want to spend on them. I recamend checking out SMC, Reedy, Orion, MaxAmps, or even YeaRacing. Depending on who you talk to, everybody is going to have their favorite. Since I race on a budget, I have YeaRacing 3200s and they work just fine. I wouldn't use them at a big event, but for our club races,(off road and dirt oval) they are just fine.

Just my 2 cents.

Just wondering...how exactly are people determining whats the "best" lipo?

At least in the past, we had numbers, and of course the "what battery won the last big race" method, to go by. But these days, there aren't as many numbers, and the "what won the last big race" thing doesn't seem to impress people as much as it used to.(thankfully)

There are so, so, SO many Lipos out now, whats the method being used to say 'this one is better than that one'? Is there one, or is it just personal preference for particular companies?

At club level, it seems to be the battery of choice for most drivers. At least the club I race at. I never buy into the whole "big race" junk.

Has anybody noticed a shortage of 5000+mah lipos? Most of the current highest "C" rated packs are out of stock everywhere I look.

I have been wondering the same thing and been searching the forums but there doesn't seem to be to much lipo testing. I have only found one thread in the off road electric which SMC has posted some test results.

I want to buy 3 different lipos to compare them and I know one will be a SMC but haven't decided on the other 2 yet. Any other suggestions besides the ones listed above?

I accidently short my Team Orion LiPo by reverse polarity once. What happened was the cables heat up. The battery internal fuse kicks in. So my ESC was saved.

To fix I open up the battery, had the wire to + polarity resoldered. It works fine after all. There are no abnormality on the battery.

So if you want to see which is the best one. I prefer the one which give me safety. At least it's better than to kill the LiPo & ESC via accidentally shorting.

What I mean is the wire to the gold connector. They are link likewise a coil. You just removed the burned wire. Pull it out & solder back. Simple as this. I wonder if any LiPo has this in place. Any comments feel free to share..

I'll second the Yeah! racing batteries as one of the best cheap alternatives. Not a single problem with mine by following very simple and strict charging instructions that come with each battery.

SMCs are killer race packs.
