Best way to add weight to a sedan when running Lipos...
 

Im all about looks with my cars, and stacking 1/4ounce weights ontop of each other is not going to cut it. Anyone have some sweet looking lipo setups?

I run Orion 3800 packs. And im not going to put weight on the outside edge of my battery im thinking, just to the car/top of battery strap.

Anyone know how much weight ill have to add when using a Orion 3800? I would compare it to my EP4200's, but dont have a scale.

Well, you could always go with a LiPo battery tray with the weight plate that goes underneat where your battery would go to try and even both sides out and meet the weight requirements.

Usually when you are adding weights to the car, it's good to note that the LiPo side of the car is ligher than the side that holds your electronics and motor. And adding weights to meet the weight requirements is only half the battle. Adding weights and keeping your car balanced is the real challenge. :nod: Sometimes, the ugliest setup is the best setup, unfortunately.

Hopefully one day manufacturers have the motor on the side of the batteries and the electronics on the other side. That should make for a balanced car, especially with LiPo batteries in the scene now.

Hyper-drive makes a nice plate out of heat-treated steel (at least it drilled like HT) about 4.5-5 oz and under the Li-Po in the '009 it makes weight and is balanced to within a 0.25oz....and it is only $25-$30....a lot cheaper than the $50 brass units I've seen advertised.

Ya, ill check that out! but the thing is... the 3800 lipos have the bumps on the bottom to act as a sub-c battery, do they cause a problem with the lipo leads?

It may or may not. I shaved down the bumps on one of my packs so it has a flat bottom.

Cant do that for ROAR sanctioned races, that would be altering the orginality of the hardcase :(

Manutech's plates aren't cheap but they seem nice. Also if you have packs with bumps they make a plate that can accommodate them...

I found with the latter, if I heatshrink my own weights and stick them on the bottom of the bar, it looks much neater.

Putting the weight on top of the strap is the worst place in terms of raising COG. Putting on the outside edge of pack helps offset the imbalance of the motor hanging off the other side, and also the further from center of car you put the weight, the less total weight you'll need to balance.

I highly recommend the PPD Billet plates. Awesome design and they look clean.

I use it as well as many other factory drivers.

I use a lipo tray, with a sheet of lipo lead in it.

I also like to keep my car neat and not a great fan of sticking car wheel weights.

I purchased a XRAY item, they have little 5gram and 10gram little disk that have a threaded section in the middle so you can screw a little hex head screw from the bottom of your car. Nice fit :nod:
They also have long skinny ones to go in the centre of the car under the belt, but as i run a TRF415 there isnt any holes andi would have to drill and counter sink them. But im happy with what i am using.

A complete set of 4 chassis balancing weights (2x 5g + 2x 10g) and mounting hardware. Designed for XRAY electric & nitro touring car to be mounted at pre-drilled chassis holes; also fits other race cars as well. Made from steel and laser engraved with the weight value for easy identification.

For precision balancing, use the #107880 HUDY Chassis Balancing Tool. Place the chassis (using the two holes drilled along the centerline of the chassis) onto the tips of the balancing tool. If the chassis falls to one side, it is not balanced, and weight needs to be added to the other side. Add balancing weights to the chassis as required until the chassis stays level when placed on the chassis balancing tool.

When possible, weights should be mounted to the pre-drilled chassis holes.
