This is one car that Tamiya really really needs to re-release. With a better gear ratio to take advantage of todays brushless setups and LiPo power.

did you ever get around to creating the front and rear diff housings for these cars? I've got a few that really need them like most people on here.
One makes use of the wing mount holes to mount the trail arms while the other has holes behind the rear A arm hole. The difference is the wing hole mounted trail arms cause the rear wheels to toe-out when the suspension is compressed. If you are interested in this part, PM me and I can work with you if you have a verified paypal address/account. Keep in mind that using this part requires you to cut off the F201 wing mount from the bottom cover of the rear gearbox. The problem is, the ring/propeller gear distance isn't perfect, there are some weaknesses to the left rocker-arm mount and the metal counter-gears end up shaving off each other. Now that I have a little free time from race-less weekends I'll spend some time fixing the spacing. I bought 3 bags of F201 ring gears sets as well since the higher power has been shaving them down both especially with sensorless brushless motors and when only using the rear portion of the drive-train to make it RWD. I've also been looking at metal propeller and ring gear parts from other chassis like the Traxxas 1/16 Slash rear gearbox and have been considering creating a F201 gearbox with Traxxas gears.

@Tamiya4Life: Honestly, I (and others) have little interest in the F104...and in my case ANY solid rear axle car. They are FAR from realistic. They are just pan cars with F1 ish bodies on them PASS

F201 Mercedes W09 update
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...eed324de4.jpeg New bargeboard design. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...d564701ed.jpeg Getting close to finishing! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...f53b812bc.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...acfe2b3f4.jpeg I cut the nose piece along the side of the body right above the front A arm and tilted it down so that the nose touches the front wing. Used left over polycarbonate body pieces with double sided tape to strengthen the new nose angle front the inside. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...144903948.jpeg |

RB15 1/10
RB15. Painted from the outside.
Gunmetal+translucent purple+translucent blue+smoke dust, Yellow+camel yellow dust. Red Bull logos and letters from custom cut vinyl. Also worked on improving the gearbox quality. Love this chassis. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...04c68f4697.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...58e0684d25.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...d2547bfc96.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...bdb608b56f.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...19340c279c.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...f9f518d492.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...d6532e4b25.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...4a4d0a1029.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...6723c0c6fb.jpg |

Where do you find tires? I have one, good shape. |
You can find them on ebay and at rcmart.com. They are the same as the FGX and HPI F10 size as well.

In the process of restoring my original Ferrari F2001; put it in storage with a cracked front gearbox housing after swiping the boards about 5 years ago.
About 2 hours on the bench this week and it's back together. Original Ferrari body is in good shape, but I'm considering trying an updated 2017-2018 shape body. I see the Tamiya Pro (2017) conversions above - will those fit on a near stock chassis, or only with a lower plate style chassis? Anyone try a Mon-Tech F18 body? Does anyone still make tires for these? I have the kit tires and some Tamiya A types. No ambitions of driving this one hard or racing anymore, but I'd like to do more than stick it on a shelf. |
Maybe FGX tires may fit. I think I had mounted some old Pit Shimizu tires meant for the FGX on Tamiya F201 wheels a while ago.

...ahhh, I have a NIB kit with a carbon chassis and a few hop ups I can start building since I have a lot of time on my hands
