Dan, you should see how good the F201 is when set up as a 2wd using a shorty lipo pack. I removed the front diff and axles, dremeled out the ribbed areas of the battery tunnel and installed Pit tires. What a difference. I have a set of drawings for the front bulkheads. (to replace the diff case) but what really needs work is the rear drive setup. Way to much slop and weight.
Just mounted some Shimizu front and rears 561 and 565's.
I'm relieved to see that these seem like they will work well on the F201 on initial impressions.
My worry was that I was running an F104 and the hot setup was Shimizu 571 and 572's. But they have different diameter front and rear. Rears came with thin strip insert,while front had a full sponge type front foam. Not to mention the front is listed as soft, rears are listed as hard. But physically, the rear tires feel much softer.
The 561/565 (ribbed tires) seemed to be at least less confusing. The front and rears are the same diameter (63mm) once mounted. This is important in a 4WD car, or you'll have overdrive. They both use sponge type foam front and rear. Foams seem to be about same firmness and thickness. However, once mounted, rears seem a tad bit softer. This should help with a bit more rear end grip. Lastly, I was sooo glad to see the compound designations seem consistent and easy to understand. They are listed soft for front and soft for rear. Physically, they feel about the same stickiness, or same compound.
It is looking promising. Main reason I'm getting my F201 back in action is because of these Shimizu tires. The old Tamiya tires were absolute crap and near undrivable unless you were running a slow motor.

Yeah you are right... I have been studying the setup and found that it my not fit the chassis, So, I have switch to my Cyclone TC and a brushed motor. I have been reading about those who made the 2WD conversion... I would like to make the switch to 2WD and get a graphite chassis.

I made them......I tested the car with the plastic gearcase with nothing in it.....found I liked how it worked. However the plastic was too flexible so I replaced it with aluminum.
Honestly, this is the best handling car for pure grip on asphalt that I've ever owned and I've been doing this for 20 years! And it's not too shabby on carpet either! Handles like a Pro10 car. This is with Tamiya Type A tires with NO traction compound. If you put compound on it has TOO MUCH grip and tries to traction roll!
I honestly feel that this chassis has been highly under rated....however in stock trim the car is too flexible for it's true capability to shine through. With an upgraded chassis the F201 is VERY capable....
In my opinion anyway.

I think you need to MAKE more... I WOULD LIKE TO BUY those aluminum parts for my car....

I've also bought a F201 which I already converted to 2WD format I will try to make some costum parts to reduce the slop, which there is a lot, and then try it as I think it should be very promising as a 2WD
