I live in Hawaii! most of the guys that used to race F1 don't race anymore. I know a few of them personnally, and we race 1/12 scale.

We still race the F201. We are going to allow 2WD chassis if they can modify to run the F201 tires.

In Canberra we race them, there are regularly 7 or 8 cars racing as basically a spec class. F201's Sports Tuned motors, cant really get a stock motor to run cool enough on our track

Default Gearing Question

I bought a used F201 and was told it came with the Tamiya high speed gears. I have a 20T pinion and a 55T spur in the car. When I check the Tamiya listing it shows that the high speed kit comes with 23T pinion and 52T spur. What gears do I actually have if they aren't the high speed kit?

gadgetworks.biz has decals. mlpmotorsports.net has them. There is another company or two that does and maybe you can get the info from one of those or formula1-rc.com.

Not dead here in the southern U.S. We had our first F1 AllStar tour last year and started with 6 cars. When the series was over we had 43 entries and this year we are adding GP2 (4-cell F1). We expect a lot more this year with people buying cars and looking for others. Lot's of F201's in the crowd. That is probably the most popular. We have cars racing from Hyperdrive, Corally, Cross, Tamiya F102's and 3's, MLP, Duratrax, Associated, CRC, Traxxas, Rcindycars. Pretty much any F1 that has ever been built is here but I have not seen a Kyosho...yet. Now if you have an F201 or any other F1 car there is a BIG race coming in April for F1,s in Carbondale, IL. There will be a website soon and I will post it here for the info. There is always the SLCF1 group in Utah. There is another in Colorado but I do not have any info on them. Atlanta, GA is building a new group seperate from the AllStar tour that will race with us during thier own series. Things are looking pretty good right now for F1 here. Just get out there and make laps. The people like seeing these cars and that's how you pass the word. Always remember;
DO YOU F1?

In our series we race the F201's with 19T motors. All of the d-drives use ROAR stock. It's the same in the 6-cell and 4-cell classes. The laptimes are the same and any car can and does win on any given race. Of course it always comes down to setup, Driver skill, and luck. Last year it was d-drives finishing 1 and 2 in the series even though an F201 4wd won the last race. In our carpet series right now an MLP 4wd is leading followed by a mix of both. It seems to be a good format for us and we encourage others to try it. I think the slcf1.com club uses 540 mabuchi's in 2wd (my favorite motor) and the black can Tamiya in the 4wd's. Try this also to see how it works for you. Then get out there and make laps. People will notice, then you will have others on the line with you. DO YOU F1?

You would have the kit gearing.

The high speed gearing will be under $10 at your LHS

I was at the Canberra track (at Natex, sorry EPIC) last year in October although I only got to see the TCs run but I liked the size of the track. The back straight is long for a carpet track. A more permanent track would be nice. Isn't there a hobby store in Fyshwick that has a carpet track or something?

@Alain: Will you be with the guys coming down to Ottawa in a couple of weeks? I'm looking forward to seeing those cars run.

GreaseMonkey: By the sounds of it you turned up on the night where we only race touring cars.
As a club we decided it was better to spread the racing over 2 weeks, otherwise we would have to have gone to 4min races and 3 races per class per night.

The Fyschwick store closed down about 2 months after opening, it was an indoor asphalt track.

Hopefully you will be able to attend a race meeting where you are able to race your F1 next time you are in Australia

Yeah, I knew about the split over two weeks as I saw the club's calendar (which I might add is the best calendar I've seen for RC club events) but I could only get there for the TCs. I don't actually have a F1 myself although when i was there, I heard mention of a pro 10 class and I'd be all over that as I might be moving back to Canberra in June.

Edit: If worst comes to worst, does the F1 class allow the Keil F1 cars?

The website is new and still being finished. Try e-mailing him directly for now at [email protected] or send a pm from here from one of the threads. He has the bodies he makes himself and plenty of decals. Also there is www.gadgetworks.biz a strictly f201 store with tons of stuff. I think he only has the Tamiya bodies, I could be wrong about that. The MLP body is very nice and a little less $. Hope this helps.
